Otari MX 5050 B III service manual
« on: October 20, 2008, 09:13:36 AM »
I can't seem to be able to find anyone selling a service manual for the B III. Anyone know where to buy one. I guess I can give Otari a call, but a PDF would be good enough for my use.

Thanks!

Hi Ken, here's a link to where you can download the service manual without the schematic. Just read all the instructions for downloading it (it's way more complicated than it needs to be).

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the link. I can't find a B III service manual on that site anywhere! I do have a nice Operators manual which has general service for the deck, but it does not have the schematics or more detailed replacement procedures. I just want to get deeper into the deck. I also want to know how to date my deck from the serial number. It looks factory fresh on the inside.

Thanks and if you can find a direct link to the service manual, a big thanks!  :-)

No, they have the users manual for download. The service manual if they have
it is about $75. I known they have the BII manual since that is what I ordered.

Email and ask about a manual ... that will work the best!

I read in another forum that the 2nd and 3rd digitals of the serial numbers of the 5050 give the year of manufacture. My 5050 B3 serial number is 193XXXXX, so it was made in 1993. Larry

Is the Otari MX 5050 wired with PIN 3 hot on the XLRs?

Mark, the XLR inputs are pin 3 hot. I switched cables from the Ampex (which I rewired to pin 3 hot) to the Otari and they work fine. Not sure about the outputs - I used the cables i bought from Cables to Go without modifying them. I am using XLR to RCA and RCA to XLR for output and input from and to the Otari.  Larry
