Heat/Noise head shields
« on: May 06, 2007, 12:36:17 PM »
I just figured out the little plate which pops up to cover the tape path over the playback head on my PR99 must be a variation on the shield I can manually pop-up on my Studer B67.  What exactly are these shields supposed to do?

Also, they aren't part the Technics design and wondered if they'd be part of the final Doc Bottlehead design?
Studer A810 and Otari MTR-15...Klipsch CWIII's, KG2's & RF7's

Truth is a kind of error, so vaporize it to find your way to heaven, or at least to a smile...

Hop, putting a shield in front of playback head improves (or so they believe) signal to noise ratio of raw signal coming from the head. Best, Angel
