At the top end we are in the development phase of a full on custom playback machine with built in electronics. Stay tuned on that one.

Has anything come of this yet, or is it a no-go?

I my guess it would cost about $5K to $15K to produce. the US labor force
wants BIG $$$ it seems for wages to produce anything if we are talking a
new complete design from scratch. If it is just modifying a deck, then I'd use
say 1/3 the price of the machine as a reasonable upgrade path.

PS. I think more music needs to come before more hardware designs.
