OTARI 5050 Manuals and Part Numbers Here
« on: April 23, 2010, 05:01:20 PM »
Hi all,
I am new to the TP forum and R2R. Some great info on here BYW. So, I bought an Otari 5050 BIII-2 of ebay yesterday. Bit of a crap shoot I know, but the pics of it looked good and it cost me $275 so hopefully it was a good gamble, let you know when it arrives. Since then I have being doing my research, not sure what I've got myself into here, but I digress.

It was a little hard at first finding information like manuals etc, so I have searched around and compiled all the docs I found into one folder for every one. Hope this makes it easier. If I find more I will update the folder.

I have already learned a lot from reading the forum thanks.

DH

Welcome to the forum DH,
What an excellent first post! I'm sure there will be lots of folks thankful for your detective work. Putting it all into one file is a huge plus. I've got a folder that has bits and pieces of this info and I always have to open a few before I find what I want.
Thanks

DH, thanks for all the good work.  I have a BIII also. So all this info in one place is great.  My BIII works great. I bought it from a guy who had bought the contents of an old radio station. The radio station had purchased it about the time they went digital in the early '90's - so it got very little wear.  He also got a BII and an old Ampex, both of which had definitely seen better days. Included were about 1000 or more 10.5" tapes - but they were 90% recorded on Ampex 456 with sticky shed :-(  I paid $450, and it was a local purchase, so I got a chance to play with it before buying.  Good luck with yours.   Larry

Hi,

Thanks for posting all the manuals.  Any chance you know where I can find a manual for a mx5050 bqii?  I see you have the bqiii manual listed.  Is there a difference?  I just bought a bqii yesterday for $50.  I think it was a great find.  This is my first tape machine.  Can't wait to get into it!
