Nagra T-i (instrumentation) for audio?
« on: August 10, 2010, 06:39:13 PM »
Hi!

Does anybody exprienced Nagra Ti?

Can this beautiful machine be used as a audiophile purpose?

I read some posts about Nagra 4-sj's unsuitable usage for audio because of its

main purpose for instrumentation.

Is it same for nagra Ti?

Ti is as beautiful as TA.. and I'm very sorry for its original purpose.

If anyone used it as a hifi purpose well, please let me know!

Thanks

Hello,

As I stated on the other Nagra TI topic here, I am now restoring and converting the TI for audio.
The plan is to use external electrinics for both rec and repro, and use the TI only as transport.
However, any other experiences and ideas will be interesting to discuss.

cheers,
Tod

Here is a Ti with custom Ampex 351 inspired electronics and custom play head that a friend of mine made a few years ago. He thinks quite highly of the Ti. I've heard it a few times and it is a sweet machine.

some pics of the innards. Note adjustable eq with 10 turn pots or fixed AME, NAB, Columbia eq.. The Columbia curve is rarely offered and is very obscure. IEC curve can be had through use of the adjustable controls. Out of the 2000 tapes my friend has, I don't know if he even has one IEC tape. Bob Craige restored the transport and the head is a Flux Magnetics.
