Hi Dan

I thought that the saga of our frequency response problem deserved a happy ending. Thanks to the tests that you and Sean did on my head block and your suggestion to contact John French at JRF Magnetics, we now have a "perfectly" working tape system. The 2 track head has been replaced with a brand new one and John relapped the other heads.

The sound is night and day....fantastic !... can't wait for the rest of our tapes to come in.

Many thanks to you, Eileen and Sean for all your help and support.

Great news!
I'm sure that JFR has cured many a "mysterious" problem over the years.

Hey Dan

As mentioned, we are very pleased with the sonic outcome with the new head, but as I can never sit still...what are your thoughts on an upgrade to the Flux Magnetics extended response heads. I am running it through the Eros. From your experience
what kind of improvement do you think I can expect.

looking forward to your input...thanks

Top end response will be more extended, but I think the most noticeable improvement is the very flat, extended bass response. The stock head has a bump in the bass response - IIRC around 90Hz - and is down a little bit by 30Hz. These deviations go away with the extended response head. The output of the extended response head is a bit lower than the stock head. In practice this is usually not an issue with the Eros, which has plenty of gain.

Thanks very much for your quick response...I will check with John French and find out how long it will take to get the new head from Flux Magnetics. As soon as he gets it in, I will send him the head block.  I'll give you an update when the work has been done.

My next step after this will have to be the Tube Repro to replace the Eros...

Great! I should note here that we have had quite a few Tube Repro and a couple of Tube Phono orders in the past few months. They both take quite some time to construct since there is quite a bit of point to point wiring in the signal path and EQ stages and I have but one technician who is qualified to build them. It might be worth getting the order in sooner rather than later, as I believe we are down to just a one to two month lead time at the moment and that may go up as more orders come in after our recent showing at CES.

Are there any reactions out there to the TP release and demos at CES? I haven't seen any yet.
