Tape Project at CES 2011 Jan 6-9
« on: December 31, 2010, 01:42:52 PM »
Next week's CES will be a very special event for the Tape Project. Along with several manufacturers using our albums for demos - including TAD/Pioneer Home Audio, Venetian 34-208; United Home Audio, Venetian 30-101; On a Higher Note/Shunyata Research, Mirage penthouse suite TBA; and Magico, Venetian 35-209 - the Tape Project will be announcing the first of our Series Three titles, and playing a few sample tracks from these albums.

Paul and I will be there, probably hanging mostly in the Magico room (where we will be running the Bottlehead custom Nagra T with Bottlehead Tube Repro playback electronics that helped garner some Best of Show nominations for Magico at RMAF 2010) and the TAD room (where I believe Andrew Jones may be demoing with a Bottlehead modified Technics RS1500 and a Bottlehead Tube repro). Come by and say hi!

Doc - I assume you will be doing a press release announcing the Series 3 titles. Will you be posting the release here, simultaneously, or even emailing the subscribers? I *believe* there may be some interest. :-)

That is the plan. Everyone will find out right around the same time, at the start of the CES.

Very cool!
I can't wait to hear what we have in store for series 3.
I gotta say it's great to have to think about making more room for more TP tapes.

Have fun at the show.

Just a quick note from CES - Had two very nice tape related experiences last night.

The first was that Paul and I were honored to be invited to a lovely cocktail party at the Mirage thanks to Nagra dealer (and just maybe the nicest guy in the business), Maier Shadi of The Audio Salon in Beverly Hills. The party was put on by Nagra in celebration of their 60 years in the audio business. Wonderful people, an elegant spread, an amazing collection of Montreaux Jazz Festival highlights playing on a big screen, and of course exquisite gear including the lovely new 300B amps and an absolutely MINT IV-S and SNST-R that had been shipped over from the Nagra museum.

The second highlight was Philip O'Hanlon's (On a Higher Note) party at the Mirage, which is always a gas. Here I had the opportunity to meet Arian Jansen, a true open reel soul brother and just a super nice guy. He's cooking up some tasty new Revox ideas, that I will let him tell you about. And I also had the opportunity to meet Head-Fi's founder Jude, another super guy to get to know, and one who seems to have a great sense of where this ever-changing audio industry is heading. Plus he likes the same headphones I do. Probably his only audio-related act of questionable judgment last night was deciding to take my picture to post in his blog on head-fi...

Sounds like you're having a great CES Dan. I saw a report last night on Charlie Rose and it looks like attendance is way up from last year. Probably kinda hard ta tell from inside of the rooms you've been demoing in and that's for the entire show of course. Tons of new tablets to compete with the iPad but that isn't exactly surprising (when I heard that some school districts are replacing textbooks with iPads I knew that was going to take off).

I met Phillip and Arian at the LA CanJam. Super nice guys that really know their stuff.
