I stumbled across this listing on the 'bay tonight.
Just the story is good enough (I've heard Brubeck mention this concert before) but the line-up is pretty darned good for a backyard shindig!

Yeah, I could see that scenario play out to a sad end!

Personally, I think those tape would look really nice sitting on the shelves next to the Monterey Jazz Festival tapes at the Stanford music archives (Braun Music Center).

Heck, Stanford University even houses the old Ampex Museum off campus. Unfortunately, they are just cataloging and restoring the items in the museum that used to reside in the lobby of the Redwood City Ampex facilities. There are no plans to build a permanent display.
But, for those of us in the Bay Area, they have kept the Ampex sign (which is on Stanford's property) so all of us can see it on our way down the freeway.
