1/2" or 1" Tape subscriptions
« on: December 01, 2011, 04:29:58 PM »
Will their be a time that 1/2" and or  1" wide tape will be available for subscriptions? If so what kind of cost do you think we are looking at? I have three machines. One 1/4", one 1/2", and a 1" all 1/2 track machines. I know that not every one will be looking for different size tapes, but it would make for some very special playback tapes for those that have a tape deck that can handle wide tapes.
Thanks,
Richard

We have three subscribers who get their albums in 1/2" format. The price of the tape stock is double, we have to reconfigure the duping room to make those tapes, and Paul does those dubs himself. Thus the price is accordingly higher,  $600 per album by subscription and $1000 per album individually. At this time we do not have any 1" subscribers, but we could do the albums in 1" format. Once again because of the price of the tape stock and the additional complexity of the process and the gear required the price would be double that of 1/2" albums, $1200 per album by subscription and $2000 per album individually. The 1" would sound phenomenal, about as close to our 1" running masters as you could possibly get.
