Eros tape head preamp question
« on: October 28, 2013, 09:17:51 PM »
Will the Eros have enough gain for a 400 mHy Nortronics replacement playback head?

Gain structure from the rest of my system is fairly typical, roughly 10 dB in the preamp, 26 dB in power amps. Speakers are ESL63 so they are never at "rocking out" levels.

Thanks

Yes, it should have plenty of gain with that head. The Eros mates just fine with 200mH heads, and your Nortronics has even more output than those, so you'll be fine.

Mr. John French installed a pro Nortronics 400mHy  tape head on my Tascam 42B and with my Amina tube tape head pre amp I have plenty of gain to work with. The Eros pre amp you ask about is also tube and I am sure it will support a 400mHy tape head.
