Newbie to this Forum - needs a new machine! :)
« on: May 31, 2015, 02:07:21 PM »
Greetings all.

Very pleased to meet you all.

(not sure if this is the best place to introduce myself)

My name is Josie. I live in the UK.

Up until 2 years ago I was in to tape for about 10 years. I ran a Pioneer RT-909, it was a lovely machine.

I'm now looking in to buying another RT-909 or maybe something else? So I'd love to get some advice on the following.

Revox A700 - Looks great, and sounds like a nice machine but parts seem to be hard to find
Studer A807 - I'd really like an A807 but the ones I can afford don't have the VU meters to which I'd need I think.
Revox G36 - Love this little thing, I've heard one running and sounded great.
Otari MX55 - I've heard that these are on a par with the Studer A807?
Teac X1000M - Supposed to be the dog's bol**cks but is it easy to maintain/service?

and of course....
Pioneer RT-909 - Very close to my heart and would love another one. So I'd be very interested in finding a very nice one if anyone has one?

I have a budget but if I could get one that leaves me with something for some tapes etc, that would be great.

Many thanks for any help in advance.

Josie

Out of the models you have listed my preference would be the A807 and then the MX-55. You need meters for recording, but not really for playback unless you are making transfers.

Thanks.

Yes I think the A807 is the best choice too. Another questio, I'm using unbalanced equipment... would this cause a problem with record/playback on an A807 for example?

I guess I'd have to use the adapter or have cables made from RCA to XLR but will it sound ok?

I've bagged an A807!!!

Looks like it's in super shape too, so I'll be back with some pics. :)

Can anyone recommend me some meters for recording?
