At long last - take up reels
« on: October 09, 2008, 05:26:19 PM »
Shawn is sitting here pecking away at assembling 50 Tape Project take up reels, for which I have finally acquired some boxes. I'll put an order button up on the website as soon as we have them ready to ship.

I thought the deal was, you get a free reel, with every tape you buy. :)
Are there any reel shims being made as well? I will not know until I get some
10.5" reels in and lock downs, but I might need a pair for my Otari MX-5050.

If you're talking about the spacers for aluminum reels, J-Corder was making some rubber ones that I like so you might try emailing Jeff to see if they're available (ugly but very functional). Otherwise there's usually several sellers on eBay that have plastic ones (don't pay more than $7 each) with different companies logos (Teac, Tascam, Sony, Revox etc) on them. For a while, I was just using some that I cut out of cardboard. The boxes of Uncle Ben's rice are the right thickness (I prefer the Wild Rice Original recipe myself).

The original ones Jeff had made were much thicker than the stock Technics or Otari spacers. I found some material of the proper thickness and sent it to Jeff to get cut by the same laser cutter who made the first ones. I think we have a few left and I think we figured $20 a pair.
