As many of the veterans of this forum will remember, I attended the Association of Recorded Sound Collections Conference at Stanford University last year. This years was in Washington. I wasn't able to attend but through the kindness of another ARSC member and the magic of digital photography he's been able to share his visit.
Many of the members of the ARSC are archivists and sound restoration experts from around the world. Saving our audio and visual legacy from the ravages of time and mother nature is a huge task and the opening of the National Audio-Visual Conservation Center in Culpepper Va is a huge step toward long term preservation of music and film/photography whose value may be as yet unknown. The NAVCC is part of the Library of Congress and the building of a purpose built home for fragile audio and visual items had long outgrown it's former home.
