Tape Project Albums - general / Re: TAPE PROJECT TAPE

Huh, hard decision. That is more than what I paid for the machine. I guess that is, plus freight!
Seems like I will not "taste" THE TAPE PROJECt feeling yet. Any TAPE PROJECT buyers from Australia? Maybe I can find someone which has a tape and run it together! (like smoking a joint).

Tape Project Albums - general / TAPE PROJECT TAPE
« on: October 31, 2010, 05:54:32 PM »
Hi you all,

I been to an ABC auction recently and managed to get a STUDER A810 HS+VU in pretty good condition for about AUD$425.00. I heard a lot and read about THE TAPE PROJECT TAPES. Now I have a machine which is not modified but can play a TAPE PROJECT TAPE but looks like you have to spend a lot of money via selective subscription to get a TAPE. I'd like to have a test of one tape. IS THERE ANY WAY YOU CAN GET A TAPE BESIDE GOING ON A SELECTIVE SUBSCRIPTION? Does anyone have a PROJECT TAPE which he wants to sell as second hand for a resonable price? I'll be interested to have a play of one.

Thank you for your attention and I hope I did not brake any rules with this question.

Best regards from down under,

EUGEN

I think in 7-1/2 ips you can have only NAB equalization! I could be wrong.

I finally completed the alignmet. The sound you get out of an REVOX C270 is beyond any expectations. Never had anything better than a well aligned REVOX B77. The alignment a little tricky, might be easier if you speak German but got it done somehow. All efforts well worthed!

Tape Tech / Aligment of a REVOX C270
« on: June 02, 2010, 02:23:24 AM »
Hi Everybody,

I rebuild a REVOX C270 reel to reel and I need to do the electrical alignment procedure. REVOX service manual call for an extension card for that. Anybody has one I can borrow or purchase?
Also anyone has experience with this procedure? Anything I need to know beside what is written in the revox service manual? I am setting the machine up for 3-3/4" and 7-1/2ips NAB equalization.
Any advice is much appreciated.

Tape Tech / Heads Reconditioning Service JRF Magnetics
« on: May 12, 2010, 06:00:42 PM »
Hey People,

I like to inform everyone on this forum that I used JRF Magnetic Science for they head reconditioning service (relap). I sent them 2 blocks of my REVOX B77 4T and my REVOX C270 block head with some 4T heads I purchased on e-bay. Today my blocks arrived and I nearly wet myself opening the box. Even been located in Australia they looked after me. I found their service pretty resonable charge. Every head block came back with its own results test sheet. I hope that just screwing them back in my machine with teh complete block will keep all the optical alignments very close to perfect. I did not installed them yet on my machine but I can report back if are any people interested in my results.
Spoke with John French and Cookie French on couple occasions on the phone and they been extremly friendly. I will not hesitate to send them the remaining 3 head blocks I still want to recondition. A700 and 2 x B77.

If I had nothing and about to buy one I would buy with no regrets an Revox B77. if you can find one with DOLBY system you have a rare machine in your hands. For some reasons I prefer 1/4 track machine so I can play my tapes boths sides. I had lot and lot of AKAI machines and I loved the GX747 or GX77 as being very nice and cute looking machines. It is all about what you what to use it for! HUH a PIONEER RT-909 what a nice looking machine.
What turns your wheels is the best think to get.
Good luck and welcome to the FAULTY people area..hahahha

Sorry Doc. If you like I can delete the posting. I am not making much money on these parts, more to help who is looking for parts. They are machine declared "dead" which I will never use.

Tape Tech / Re: Adjustments in REVOX C270
« on: April 18, 2010, 09:01:33 PM »
Hi Christopher,

Most of my machines are running 3-3/4 and 7-1/2 ips. I have lots and lots of recordings done in this speed through the years. I decided to convert my C270 from a 7-1/2 and 15ips to those speeds. Also from IEC equalization to NAB. Yes, I know I am swimming in the wrong direction but this machine stayed for 3 years unused as I do not have 2T recordings all mine are 4T so also I convert the heads to 4T (sent to John French for conversion). I believe at the end I will have a beautiful machine which I can use every day than a TAPE PROJECT machine which waits for me to purchase a TAPE PROJECT tape. Might be rolls royce but not practical to me. I still have some tape project machines.
However in the process of converting I notticed that some poeple worked on the CAPSTAN CONTROL board (blown trace, jumpers, etc) so I purchased a new one from IRINCO. Unfortunatly to get to the adjusting coils and pots of the capstan control board you have to drop the main board at 90DEG. Looks like I have to make some cables. Main board has 19 cables connected to it. I contacted Jack Clark but he replied that he has his own set which he manufactured.
So...I have to still look into this.
Thank you for your reply.

Tape Tech / Adjustments in REVOX C270
« on: April 17, 2010, 06:08:51 PM »
Hi People,

I need to do electrical adjustments on my REVOX C270 according with the manual. The manual calls for cables extensions and cards extension in order to access the trim pots. Does anyone knows where I can get those or can I borrow and return (will pay freight no problems). Hope to hear from someone!
Best regards from down under.
