Suggestion Box / Re: Chess Records

Well I wouldn't mind some more Blues, doesn't have to be Chess or any other special label. Just good music that we all can enjoy.

Rock With Me Baby / Re: first impressions of TP-017, 'Rock With Me Baby'
« on: August 13, 2010, 09:52:04 PM »
it's late and i'm tired. i had 25 people in my room tonight for an audio club meeting, and a few stayed till after 11pm.

we played about 40% RTR tape. the 2 tracks we played from 'Rock With Me Baby' stand out as the best of the best of the tapes we played. holographic, vivid, alive, compelling. i like the music. alot. but even if you only 'sorta' like the music this one will grab you.

is this the best tape yet? it might be.

when i recover from my 'event' i will listen all the way thru and expand on these comments.
Yea Mike,
Thanks for the mini review I am looking forward to getting my copy!!!

General Discussion / Re: Tape Packing
« on: July 29, 2010, 02:39:37 PM »
Hi Guys,
What would cause uneven packing of the tape when rewinding it to play? After rewinding one of my TP tapes earlier today the packing was all uneven, and I had a hard time getting it back to a nice tidy pack.
No problems with any other tapes I played today on the same deck.

Jay

Can static electricity/room humidity have anything to do with variable results?
Steve,
I don't have a static or humidity problem in my room, so I don't think so.

Well Steve thanks for the very detailed explanation about the packing, I have since gotten the pack alot better. It just funny how it got uneven to start with!!!

Tape Project Machines / Re: Studer A810 head rewire

I did try cleaning it with Progold but it didnt help much. I suppose I need something more abrasive. Well, at least I knw that the tube rush sound that I have been hearing is due to TFK ef 806s that I have been using. I suppose it better to buy from more reliable seller but it wouldnt be cheap.
Will be comparing my amperex 7308 PQ with telefunken e88cc and e188cc and lets see how it goes
Song,
If you are using these tubes with the Seduction in my system the Telefunken E88CC is the clear winner, closely followed by the Amperex JAN white labeled 7308 from the 1960's not the PQ version. The PQ version did not work in my application, all others were similar. Forgot to mention that I found the same results in my Tube Repro!!!

Tape Tech / Re: Help, Rewire tape head signal to output
« on: July 01, 2010, 09:01:18 AM »
Refering to a schematic of the unit (or looking inside at the record amp circuit boards), find the record level calibration pots and connect the pot output (the wiper) to your output jacks.   This signal will be post fader and post para EQ.  If there is no audio signal on the pot, then there is a mute transistor (or FET) prior to that pot that needs to be disconnected.  Refer to the schematic for that.

Hey Tim,
Your the man!!!
