General Discussion / Re: Capitol Audio Fest Rockville MD/D.C Suburb

Right you are Myles.  Thanks for correcting my oversight.
Greg will also have the Lyn Stanley RTR Potions tape available for play if someone makes a request to hear it.

It seems as though you guys on the west coast and the big cities get all the fun.

However in two weekends the upstarts in the Mid Atlantic Region right up the road from D.C. in Rockville MD will have our own Hi Fi event with a concert sure to please.

Lyn Stanley will perform Saturday 7:00 PM at the show free of charge.  With two well received albums under her belt she seems to have the goods in terms of voice, stage presence and production values for her recordings.  No riding the gain control for this lady.  She even likes and records mainly in analog on tape!

You have Jacqui we have Lyn.

Still modest by the likes of Axpona, and other more established shows, Capitol Audio Fest has fewer big badge companies however the interest, enthusiasm and congeniality of the attendees make the experience quite enjoyable.

If you are in the area, consider stopping by.

I have no finacial interest in the show, VPI or the Ms. Stanley's concert.

One more thing VPI is going to introduce their new table the Avenger at the show.  A skeletal HRX based minimalist plinth able to accomodate three arms of any manufacturer and length.

Very cool looking.  Nothing like you have ever seen from VPI.

So Xcortes did you ever play the tape?
If so.....?

Amen Ironbut.

It may seem less expensive to buy NOS or used tape, however once you run into these kind of problems how much is your time and the performance of your deck worth?

As noted on another topic thread, RMGI is having their challenges, and there is ATR Magnetics in beautiful York PA both of whom would love to sell you brand new tape which is second to none.

From the sounds of it however ATR Magnetics will actually be able to deliver your tape purchase to you in a timely fashion!

Buy new.  Keep the supply chain in business.

Sounds troublesome.

Pyral sold to Mulann, a manufacturer of production and testing equipment for credit card ticketing and smart card industries?!

Not exactly the kind of business synergy that comes to mind for a buyer of recording tape.

Perhaps Mulann needs a tax write off.

Or maybe their executives need more red tape to cut through and nobody told them the color is brown.

Sales of red Krylon spray paint may sky rocket.

This is not a stock tip, or stock advice.

Sorry Paul.  I am a bit rusty.
This should do it.

Second that Ironbut, except perhaps for the big bucks.  Maybe a trust fund!

I also like the price quoted in Myles' article.

I will take one of each at that price!

General Discussion / Is anybody listening to their tapes?!

Other than myself who has a legitimate reason why I did not open my Series 1 and 2 Tapes until two weeks ago, are all the other TP subscribers as lame as me, or are you using these things as paper weights or door stops or status symbols?

Impressing your friends with how nice the TP tapes look in your display case?  Doctors and Lawyers offices were filled with unplayed and unread Franklin Mint records and leather bound books to prove how sophisticated they were.

One hi end audio dealer once told me with an obvious note of disbelief; "You really do listen to music".  I suppose his other customers bought stuff for show or to give the maid something else to dust carefully.

So many of the tape title posted subjects are about Ooh I just got my notice or Ooh I got mine too!  Ooh there is a TP box at my door!

Hardly any title has more than a errant reaction to listening to the tape itself.

I would hope after spending anywhere from $300 to $475 dollars on a tape you could post a reaction more enthusiastic than a yawn or MIA.

For those on the fence or unfamiliar with the music it would be helpful to hear your reaction to listening to the music on tape rather than another medium.  You don't have to be a professional audio writer to construct a simple sentence which expresses your visceral response to your listening experience.

For he who is without sin to cast the first stone is pretty nervy and you won't see my posted review of any tape yet because I have yet to get fully functional deck wise, but once I start rolling I will be sure to spill my thoughts.

When the TP first started this was pretty heady stuff.  The Forum was electric with participation both pro and con.

Not so much anymore.

Is it all now just so yesterday?

If you don't care to share your joy of listening to your tapes with fellow TPers, it undermines the vitality of this Forum and brings into question its' very existence.

You don't need a forum to announce new titles.

What has happened to this Forum?

Anybody have any thoughts on how to put a little fun and frolic back in here?

OK so at least three people on the planet were to have received this title in a few days after posting their squeels of delight and other than Ironbut no one else has gotten around to playing the darn tape and telling the rest of us how it sounds?

I am not bitter; no not me!

No offence Ironbut.  Your taste is impeccable.

After a long hiatus the details of which I will not bore you with and thanks to some degree to a post by Xcortes of the attributes of the Technics RS 1500 family of tape decks (modified and stock) I am back.

With Series One and Two full subscriptions which until last week were unopened TP tapes and a recently acquired restored/modified RS 1520 from Jeff at J-Corders I played my first tape in 30 years.  It was a tape that Jeff made from my recently acquired deck.  I am not crazy enough to risk a $375.00 tape until I get the hang of threading tape around a taco.

None the less sounded might fine; mighty fine indeed.

Nice to finally hear what the fuss is all about.

When I purchased the Cole/Shearing title just before the final price increase Eileen asked me if I was going to play the tapes I had just unboxed.

Sarcasm does not become some people Eileen!  On you though it looks pretty good.  It must be your delivery.  Doc tutoring you I suppose.

Still just a person who enjoys music, not a tech savy type, so I apologize in advance to those who frown on those not in the know.  I will try not to hold that against you.

Here's lookin at you Ironbut
