Prerecorded Tapes / Re: Large quantity of classical and opera tapes
« on: April 01, 2012, 08:52:06 PM »
That means there is still *one* left. :-)
I am looking for the standard tapes, not the B&C's.
Ben.
BTW I was kind of expecting today , April 1st to have the tape project
state session #4 will be all released as 7 1/2 IPS staggered head 1/4" tapes
for all the users of vintage equipment.

So do you still have tapes for sale?

Can I use my Just visiting ... Get out of jail free. card?
Busy over coming up with a low hum power supply for my pre-amp,
that has been using up all my time and money. I need about
110 DC @ 20 ma and .8 amps @ 6.3 V. I suspect the chokes
I am using don't just cut it. and I have to wait a few weeks to order
more.

I suspect I will just be buying TP tapes since I have no way of
paying for ebay tapes, and that has restricted my thoughts of doing
more with audio tape. I just hope I check in a few days before they
stop shipping season II, not after.
Ben.

What I want to is when flipping a 7' reel over is to place the tape
on the top of the R2R. Not a good idea since it looks a power
transformer just rests under there.

I suspect it is the Recording Head rather than the playback head that
would give the absolute limit of freq response and linear response.

Looking at the R2R playing, about 1/2 way through on a 7' reel
7.5 IPS it looks like the reel speed is 30 RPM. :)
Off hand I think the -3DB is 18 Khz for 7 1/2' and 20 Khz for 15 ips,
but your R2R manual should give the details.
Listening to a Decca tape - enhanced for stereotape ( no year )
Golden Favorites - The Orginal Ink Spots, with a New Amp/Pre-amp
and they sound really good. I think I would have a less fidelity, or mono recording with good sound, that poor CD copy of a better known pressing.
I am finding about 3% of CD's just don't make the grade for quality they could have.
Ben.

Reel to Reel Tape Machines / Re: Check out Sony studio in NYC

I am not sure, but I bet it has a GOOD spin cycle. :-)
Still that reminds me, @ 15 IPS you still have the best sound
for that machines era.

Reel to Reel Tape Machines / Re: New Deck or Upgrade
« on: October 03, 2009, 02:52:23 PM »
Best sound ... um that would be live. :-)
The only disadvantage I can see is damage to a deck
with freight carriers if you send out to be updated.
For me now - the best sound is upgrading my primary amp.
Since I use valve audio, I like to keep the older amp around
as a spare.

Remind me next year with the Bump. Short on cash this year. :(

Tape Project Albums - general / Re: More TP-010s shipping today

And in the NEW and IMPROVED smaller box too. :)

I suspect the 'alignment tape' is a better value than a take up reel.
Still I suspect a few people want matching reels for cosmetic reasons.

Well I guess I'll have to wait a few more days for the web site to updated.
I wanted to look at the Album Covers. Ben.
PS: Doc I noticed the new order page is up for bottle head products
and something is missing ... It must be the space between the .00 and USD :)

Thinking of my luck, building a PP amp here at home.
Got spare tubes & fuses?

I don't have any, but I do notice they come up about once a month on ebay.
Did anybody ever use them for sound effects, things like radio plays?

Umm just remember to rose colored glasses on when you eat the insects,
like the typical mad doctor from many horror type films. :)
