Hmm Fresh leather ... Not a new sofa or new car. :)
Even with the AC blasting away and my hi-fi setup in half setup
Side A sounds very sweet indeed. This seems a Just right style
of Jazz to me, the music is there, but it does not over whelm you.
Ben.

Reel to Reel Tape Machines / Re: Revox relaped heads
« on: July 16, 2009, 12:19:31 PM »
Looks around ... no Ironbut, I guess I will have to fill in. :)
I suspect that if your heads are that bad a shape to damage a
tape of any kind, a head replacement rather than re-lapping might
be a better idea. It all boils down to how many hours the that
heads have been in use. If I remember right from the beginners guides
you can only re-lap once or twice before you need to replace the head.
If your tape path and heads are correctly aligned and *clean* and free
from visable damage I can't off hand see how you could damage tape playback
of any kind.
Ben.

Hey I am still building my new PP amp,on the kitchen table. I can not fantom
building 50 or 60 of them at a time.:) I plan to buy more tapes only after
I find out of all the titles listed in Series II and saved a bit more money.
I am the 'get it while I got the cash' club. :). Good luck in getting those
titles.

Tape Project Machines / Otari fixed guides
« on: June 18, 2009, 10:40:44 AM »
I has hoping just to upgrade the tension arms on my Otari 5050 II , but I can't get them off as the screw is too tight. Any ideas on that one. That is the only thing
I really plan to upgrade with doc's upcoming mods. Ben.

Well I can see that, R2R's is not exactly the same sales volume as
today's latest music media player. Still I think it is better to have a few
knowing people out there, than whole lot sales people who know
a whole lot of nothing. Ben.

Prerecorded Tapes / Re: Cassette version of tape project.............
« on: June 02, 2009, 11:52:59 AM »
That brings back memories ... the last time I heard a nice audio cassette was
in around 1981 on good machine with headphones. I suspect the problem was/is
the problem is cost cutting consumer market and audiophile quality equipment.

I also live in Canada -- I should get first pick ... you just bring the shot gun,
I'll bring the spade ... just in case he does *not* want to sell any tapes.  :)

I suspect more people would of bought tapes it had been marketed in any way shape
or form. Only with the advent of the internet did I find about hi-fi music again and R2R.

Umm two days and you complain?  I still think I lost a Tape around mid march
in the mail.  As soon as you get up to speed I'll check again to see just what was
shipped. I am glad to hear you back and running and cosmetic problems rather
than real problems have been slowing things down, for you. Ben

PS.  I am toying with building a second 6A5G pp amp, as my set 2A3 just did not have the dynamic power I need. That is what I get for listening to  tapes ... more power needed!!!1.  I hope to install Blumlein's garter circuit and few other ideas, for my summer project.

1 good 4 watt (rms) Triode amp

I wonder if Doc can mail a TP tape to a coffin in Transylvania.
That is the only only you can die and still be around to hear it. :)
PS.
Runs and ducks the tossed 45 of "  The monster mash " thrown this way.

I tend to have vibration only on the 10.5" reels, but then I have my R2R on a
shakey plant stand.

Some quick comments
I remember reading in some old magazine, about a DIY video recorder
project around the mid 70's. They did recording the hard way ... very fast tape speeds. I think you got like 20 seconds off a 4800 ft tape.
I remember watching 1" B&W video tape in the early 1980's. That must be a very extinct format!
