Prerecorded Tapes / Liquidating Small Tape Collection
« on: August 18, 2007, 12:22:27 PM »

Fellow Tape Heads,

First and foremost, I have specific approval from Doc B to post these tapes in the Pre-Recorded Tape forum.

Living in a small space, I?ve had to learn to get rid of things. Now it is time for the tape pile to be thinned out. I have a list (below) of commercially pre-recorded reel-to-reel tapes. I have never played/listened to these albums. I offer no warranty as to their quality. All tapes are AS IS.

Here is the list:

Neil Young with Crazy Horse ? Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
4-track, 3?ips

Neil Young ? After the Gold Rush
4-track, 3?ips

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young ? 4 Way Street
4 Track,  7? ips

Herb Alpert?s Tijuana Brass ? South Of The Border (tape in suspect condition)
4-track, 7? ips

James Taylor ? Sweet Baby James
4-track, 3?ips

Stevie Wonder ? Songs In The Key Of Life ? two reel set
4-track, 3?ips

Led Zeppelin ? Led Zeppelin
4-track, 3?ips

The Who ? Tommy
4-track, 3?ips

The Beatles ? Let It Be
4-track, 3?ips
The printed label on box says, ?4 Track, 7? ips?, but the 7? is crossed out in pen and ?3?? is written in

Chicago IX ? Chicago?s Greatest Hits
4-track, 3?ips

King Biscuit Flower Hour - Santana & Al Jurreau - 1977
New York City ? October 9, 1977 ? 2 tape set, in box as shipped in September 1977
THIS SET APPEARS TO BE SUPER-COOL

The most intriguing set is the King Biscuit Flower Hour tapes. These, from what I understand, are the original tapes sent to the radio stations for broadcast. It looks like these tapes have been in the box since 1977, but I could be completely wrong.

So, if you are interested, send me an e-mail, or post on-line here, the most compelling reason you should get this pile of tapes (I?m reluctant to split them up, and I may keep the King Biscuit stuff).  Of course, thing like cash can be very compelling, but a good story can be compelling too. Recipient to pay for shipping.

As an aside, if you have any additional information about the King Biscuit tapes I?d love to learn more.

Let me know if you are interested in acquiring this treasure.

Cheers,
Bruce

Prerecorded Tapes / Tape Life
« on: March 01, 2007, 07:28:51 PM »
I'm completely new to this tape stuff, but it seems good so I'm jumping in with both feet.

I've started buying some tapes on eBay. Many of the things I'm interested in are 30+ years old. Does tape quality suffer over time? If so, what is a reasonable life expectation for recorded tapes?

Cheers,
Bruce

Suggestion Box / The Police

The Police would be great to hear on tape. My favorite Police titles are Synchronicity and Ghost In The Machine.

Cheers,
Bruce
