I am not looking for a fight, however as this vendor and site have been mentioned on this forum several times in the past; how big a secret can it be?

That is how I found out about them, so if we do have big mouths on this forum, there are big eyes and ears as well.
Everyone benefits.

I appreciate the willingness of many members of this forum to selflessly share info that to conventional thought would not be in their best interests.

Art promises future musings on tape recorded sound.
Sounded promising.

Tape Project Albums - general / TP Demo Tape, gee why not?

One of the reasons that I do not go to many/any audiophile listening sessions is that you rarely if ever get to listen to anything all the way through.
This is regardless if you are at a show, or a private residence.  It is a stream of snippets.  You lose the continuity of the piece.  I am not too keen on greatest hits of anybody collections either.  I like the context of the album even if there are a few clunkers in the playlist.
But then again if you are under time constraints, or have friends with short attention spans, then snippets would be the sensible way to go.

A few months ago I suggested a demo tape as a possible sales tool for prospective TP subscribers from current TP selections.  The response was that the licensing agreement would not permit such a practice.  I understand the obstacles.

That seems to be a shame, as demo diving seems to be the M.O. of many called, and so called audiophiles.  It was bad enough with LPs, CDs made it easier, digital downloads make it almost too easy; tapes, oh Brother!  That is unless you want to roll your own, tape that is.  You folks out there with more than two machines, sic em tiger.

Perhaps there is already an audiophile demo tape available from some premier label done in the analog realm which could meet the sonic criteria and not run afoul of the licensing issues of a home grown TP greatest sonic wonders tape.  By definition you are limited by catalog, or genre or both unless you are talking Vanguard, Reference Recordings, Westminster (early), Fantasy, and the like.
Reference Recordings Sampler "Tutti" comes to mind.

This started out as a satire, but I kind of like the idea now that I think about it.

Please move this to TP title suggestions if this better suits that thread.

Did Jeffrey Dahlmer do testimonials for this stuff?  I am sure he needed quiet to concentrate.

Word association therapy in progress with a touch of cinema trivia ala Lee Marvin, Spencer Tracy, Ernest Borgine, Robert Ryan, Ann Francis, Dean Jagger, and Walter Brennan.  Even the cactus looked great.
Great film music as well.

My therapist says I should rest now.

I agree, this music does not get much if any respect, but what I enjoy most about it is the naturalness of the vocals and instruments.
The lack of processing and over production allows the music to just be itself.

As an aside I have heard that Montovani recordings are in high demand in Europe especially Germany.  And while you can always tell a German but you can't tell them much having heard some of the earlier Montovani discs in particular they are on to something.

(Now before you go nuts, check out my last name. I know what I am talking about.)

I am partial to band/dance music recorded on London Records as a premier example of what you are talking about.
RCA and Mercury also had more than their share of this genre of music some of which are considered by many to be worthy audiophile fare for sonics, and content.
I would be interested in a TP selection of this type for certain.

Where is Ben, this is a thread that should be near and dear to his heart.

But as for the steel layer of the Quiet rock, is that for the purposes of sound, or protection from a wayward hunter with a 30/06 looking to bag a deer, bear or moose?

You will get the best deal purchasing from an online etailer from the green glue website.
The guys in Richmond Va. are great, but I believe there are closer sources for you.
Calculate 3 tubes pre 4X8 sheet of drywall.
If you follow instructions, it is almost no mess at all.

If you let your neighbors know what you are up to they may offer to subsidize the project, unless they really like the same music as you do at all hours of the day or night!

Didn't Concord also buy Telarc?
It really doesn't matter but whoever bought Telarc effectively killed the creative arm of that company in short order and eliminated a very competent source of excellently recorded and engineered music for CD and SACD.
Way to go.

For those of you considering improving the acoustics of your listening space whether it is a gut job, or a more modest make over may I direct you to a product named 'Green Glue' for consideration.  Even if it turns out to not be your cup of tea, there are loads of interesting and useful tips to all things acoustic to help you make informed decisions.

You may find this product is just right for your purposes and is very cost effective compared with other audiophile 'hobbyist' (sorry I couldn't resist) alternatives.
I was not able to go the Mikel route, so I took the Frugal approach instead.  No slam there Mikel, my lot is .23 acres (postage stamp) and I am in a critical areas region of the Chesapeake Bay.  I had to stay within my home footprint.

I have no financial interest in any way, shape, or form with Green Glue their distributors, or their retailers.

I was posting a new thread for the Washington Audio Fest event coming up in June when I hit upon a tangent (me a tangent?) pertaining to the use of the adjective "hobbyist" to describe our pursuit of all things musical.

It strikes me that the use of the word hobbyist is a not so subtle dismissive term for folks with thick glasses, little hair, and lots of time to kill being geeks, or nerds in dimly lit rooms.
OK in my case I have to fess up to the hair, but heh these are only reading glasses, and dim rooms seem to make the music more ethereal OK!
It is unfortunate that  we are perceived as hobbyists by the general public, but I have noticed the use of this description in the premier print audio magazines as well.

I for one never grew up wanting to be a hobbyist, and I am not going to start now.  Just ask any young person if they are (or want to be) a musical/audio hobbyist and wait for the contorted facial expressions to burst forth as in revulsion/consternation.

This may be preaching to the choir since this is a pretty activist crowd, but perhaps the hi end malaise we often read/talk about may be as much the friendly fire of the perceptions painted by the words we allow to characterize our passion.

I don't hear much passion in the word hobbyist do you?

Oh did you know that Blaupunk translates to enthusiast?

Heh it was a slow news day and as Steve has noted I have too much time on my hands, but look out folks, the whole home demo project is lurching towards the finish line.
The listening room acoustic treatment and drywall work will be completed by next Tuesday.
Music is not far behind.
