Thanks for your explanation. I follow your directions and some dirt comes from the brakes but not much, now the problem is intermitent, not happens always as before.

All the afternoon I was trying to deal with a peculiar situation that I honestly do not undertand: if I place the deck lay down, the transport is totally silent and breaks works perfect BUT, if I stand up the unit, sometimes breaks do not work as they should (after FF or REW, sometimes tape is little loose to go to "play" ), and hear some noise in the transport path, do not think is mechanical but the way where the heads are, deal with the tape ...... any comments?, thanks in advance

Tape Tech / tape speed against 2/4 tracks recordings
« on: October 04, 2009, 09:39:30 PM »
Im almost ready to start to preserve in tape some of the best songs that I have in my vinyl collection, but before that, need to decide tape speed and 2 or 4 tracks so, in your experience, what is better to preserve the best sound quality, to record in 2 tracks at 7 1/2 or 4 tracks at 15?. My point is to know if is better to go to the fastest speed, or records in 2 tracks instead of 4. i know that optimal should be 15 speed / 2 tracks but is the difference notorius against the other options mentioned before? .Tanks

I know this is an old post but would like to mention that this are incredible good tips for people like me that do not have all the knowledge need it two know all about our machines but want to learn. Is possible to put together a thread with what is consider a regular mantainance rutine for this decks? maybe I could ask for more, what about some videos of how this work has to be done? "the reeler" do that in his blog and is a very good way to learn. just my 2cts.
