Title: Otari meter bulbs
Post by: Listens2tubes on October 13, 2013, 06:12:44 PM
I need 4 bulbs for an Otari MX5050 Mk.II-8. They look like AG3 fuse bulbs but measure 1 11/16" x 3/16"

which is 5/16" longer and 1/16" less around. Anyone have or know of a supplier?

Hey Neal,

You should give bulbtronics a try. Their site isn't the easiest place to search so I usually just email them with the size, amps/volts.
If you get stuck, you might just get some of the shorter ones you mentioned and adapt either the lamps or the holders.
Generally, if you have to use something other than oem, it's best to just replace all of them so the light is consistent across all the VU's.

Don't know of a supplier offhand, but there are some kind of neat LED replacements for that style of lamp made for cars, that have similar festoon type connectors. They are somewhat differently shaped than festoon lamps and may or may not fit the place you need to put them. You can plow through ebay for ideas.

Great idea Dan.
I should have thought of replacing those with LED's.
A number of guys on the Ampex list have suggested doing that since LED's will almost never need to be replaced.

These are 6 volt bulbs. The auto festoon style uses ?" ends , which are a 1/16" bigger and the longest I found were not quite the same.

If they are clipped from the side like a fuse rather than by the pointed ends, something like this might work, but probably too short. -
