« on: November 03, 2011, 10:03:36 AM »
Well, no... it is only the last means (hopefully) to the ultimate end ... reproduction of fine music...

Thanks to Doc B for feeding my disease that has no cure but... only periodic remedies? this time a Studer C37.  Ready for TLC and rebuild.

This is to offset Steve's "Nice Studio but..." post.  Hope to bring us down to the reality...

Reel to Reel Tape Machines / Nagra T Audio and static electricity
« on: March 20, 2011, 03:35:36 PM »
Hi fellow Nagra T users,

During a small tape fest earlier today with local tapeheads, I had the Nagra T doing the tape duty.  First I had RS-422 communication error (message #10) during FF and REW.  I replaced the keyboard assembley with a spare one but the problem remained with static pops during Play as well.

Then I thought about replacing the Studer NAB hub (with reel contact by rubber O ring in plastic portion) with metal flange with the original metal Nagra NAB hub (same thing Doc B uses for his T) grounding the metal reel and tape completely.

All radom errors had gone away as well as the static pops.   So during winter time with heat going and low humidity condition, it is best to use all metal NAB hubs with metal reels to avoid any static issues with the Nagra T Audio.

Reel to Reel Tape Machines / Telefunken M12
« on: June 30, 2010, 11:10:35 AM »
This machine looks tasty...

Anyone here owns one or have more info?  The M12 in the photo in working condition is up for sale at ~460 Euro but the shipping from Europe would be a killer...

One of the tapeheads in Seattle area has one but it's not working.  I hope to see it in person soon.

Tape Tech / Possible replacement for 5532 opamp?
« on: April 26, 2010, 04:14:21 PM »
The 5532 opamp is considered to be very low noise and good sounding opamp (as the opamps go..., I guess).  It is used widely in Studer A810 and A820's (and other models as well) from tape head pre-preamp module in the headstack down the entire signal chain.

I was talking to a very knowledgeable studio person, and he thought finding a replacement opamp for 5532 would improve the sound drastically (but he couldn't remember the new opamp number...)

Any comments and suggestions would be much appreciated.

Reel to Reel Tape Machines / Most Ideal Stellavox model for TP tape play?
« on: December 23, 2009, 12:49:40 AM »
I know there are few Stellavox users such as Charles on this forum.

Which model would compete well in repro mode with Nagra T Audio and Lyrec Frida Mk II?

Service Resources / Nagra T Audio tech in US?
« on: December 07, 2009, 06:32:11 PM »
Nagra informed me that they are not supporting Nagra analog tape machines as of Jan. 2009.  Thus, all T Audio machines needing service would be shipped to Swiss...

Are there any third party Nagra service techs in US or Canada who can work on Nagra T Audio recorders?

Thanks,

Ki

General Discussion / Source for 6 screw plastic reel hub for 1/4" tape?
« on: September 01, 2009, 04:15:00 PM »
Hi guys:

Can you point me to a place where I can order those plastic hubs that come with pancake reel tapes?
I need the hubs with six mounting holes as you can find them in 3M reel tapes usually for wide tapes but some on 1/4" tapes.

Thanks,
Ki
