Steve/Larry - do either of you have your Yarlung tapes yet?  If so, any comments?

Looking forward to your comments on these tapes. A little disappointed to find out they do not have the complete contents of the LPs - guess they would have been twice as expensive. However, I personally believe that the existence of others doing tape, using the same standards as The Tape Project, is likely a good thing.

Tape Project Albums - general / Projected Dates for Series III?
« on: November 15, 2011, 12:30:17 PM »
Received "The Sermon" a few weeks back, really enjoying it.

There are two dates I'd like to hear about:

1. Projected date for announcement of remaining Series III titles, which I hope will be classical......

2. Projected first shipping date for the first Series III title - can we hope for something nice under the Christmas tree?

Funny - I just received my new Magnepan 3.7s....and the first tape I decided to play was ..... you guessed it, Brilliant Corners.

Reel to Reel Tape Machines / Re: Sonorus ATR10

Arian (also known here as Tubes N Tapes), send me a very long and gracious email on the ATR10, with pricing (which I will leave to him). I really want to audition a unit. My son lives in Huntington Beach (near Sonorus' location) - what a great excuse to visit him!

Prerecorded Tapes / yarlung records?
« on: August 22, 2011, 09:11:43 PM »
The Sonorus Audio web site (see thread below in the hardware section) mentions two producers of tapes - The Tape Project, of course, but also Yarlung records. I checked their web site and saw some vinyl for sale but no tape. Anyone with information?

Suggestion Box / Nojima
« on: August 21, 2011, 09:56:46 PM »
After hearing Nojima plays Liszt, perhaps Nojima plays Ravel would be a great follow up.

Or.....while it is apparently true that Nojima is microphone shy.....perhaps an original TP production would be in order! How about Nojima plays Chopin? Simultaneous licensing with Reference Recordings for other formats? Or Rachmaninoff....or Schubert.....or Beethoven......or Brahms.....

Hi Steve, yep, super busy! Working with 8 venture backed clients now.....half of which are funding right now. Keeps me gainfully employed.

Starting to look at upgrading my system.....first step - my beloved B&W 804s just don't cut it in my living room - it is just too big. OK for music with limited dynamic range, but totally crap out on orchestral works, for example - no feeling of being there.  Believe or not.....I am going over to the other side, and have ordered Magnepan 3.7's. I have never been a Maggie guy...but these are different. Really different. Spent hours at Audible Difference listening to them on a wide variety of material....can't wait for their arrival.

Next will be my tape deck......as you know I am not that happy with the Technics tape path, and anyway, the stock 1520 just doesn't have the electronics. Starting to look for the next thing. We'll see. Probably a decision in the next 6 months.

Miss all of you guys.

Brilliant Corners / Brilliant Corners......absolutely brilliant
« on: June 19, 2011, 10:15:01 AM »
I was listening to this last night - in total I have probably played this about 5 times. A truly magnificent release, not only for the sound but the music. If you are a recent subscriber and don't have this.....get it.

I remember the Sir Douglas Quintet  (She's About a Mover was the big hit, I believe) and I suspect many of the others that frequent this forum do as well.....but.....this suggestion has to win a prize as one of the most offbeat suggestions for a Tape Project tape made.  Not that it is not a worthy selection, but who would have thought? Actually, the truth for me is that I lost track of Sir Douglas (Douglas Hahm? from Texas? fake brit outfits in 1965) after the big chart topping days but I had heard that the later stuff was outstanding. Never heard it, and now I have to!

Reel to Reel Tape Machines / Re: What hardware are you using?

Stock Technics RS1520 that is connected to my Simaudio I-7, for TP tapes (Yes, I am a subscriber). I am certain that I am going to do an upgrade, at some point, but I think a little room correction/enhancement followed by a speaker upgrade will happen first. I am personally not crazy about the Technics tape path - I think it is a little harder to thread than other decks (although seeing Steve Koto aka Ironbut in action will leave you dumbfounded), so when I do get around to an upgrade my thought is to do something different.

ReVox A-77 (stock) for non TP tapes. That number of non TP tapes is dwindling as I discover more of my mid-70s Ampex tapes afflicted with tape squeal.
