Suggestion Box / Ella Fitzgerald? Billie Holiday? ...

Hey how about some ol' time female vocalists?  Some blues maybe??  Some on the Bluesville label are amazing RVG..  How about any of the Miles lp's from prestige..  Cookin', Steamin', Blue Haze, Workin', Relaxin', Musings of Miles, Bags Groove...  Any of them would be great.  I have not heard anything about Coltrane.  how about Coltrane/Ellington?  Soultrane? Love Supreme?  I am not even going to beg, dream, plead, or offer to sell my soul but just the thought of a few of Blue Notes finer like Open Sesame, Cool Struttin', Blue Train, True Blue make my heart race!
Hey so far so good, and there is not a bad one in the bunch.  I listen and love each tape and check daily for an update for what's coming next year.  Go Tape Project!!!

I am sure your right, being a rookie has some very big disadvantages. I know there was a lot of work, testing and retesting.  The difference was absolutely amazing.  I will be the guy with no watches as long as it can tell time like it is now!

I sent him my 2 track 1/4 inch to have the heads relapped, but he sent me a 4 track 1/4 so that I could play those tapes as well.  BTW a superb guy and a superb operation up there.

I had the same type of issue on my Studer A-80RC MKII.  John at JRF sent me a four track head set that on four track tapes was a mind blower.  Yes the tp sounded good, but on some it was just not all there.  I was dumbfounded as well.  About two weeks ago Evan Mater from Vork audio came over and aligned my deck with his proffesional alignment tape.  I cannot begin to tell you how big a difference it made.  Like oh my god kind of difference.  At one point before Evan saved me (no kidding) I called and talked to Dan about what could be wrong...  I don't know what I am doing I admit.  I am a Vinyl guy....  and this is my "New Vinyl" if you know what I mean.  One thing Evan did find out was that the Phase of the TP alignment tape was far different than the phase of his alignment tape.  I called Bottlehead, and was reffered to SF where I called and had not heard back from.  Has anyone else found the alignment tapes to be correct or incorrect in phase?  Again, I am a rookie, so don't shoot me if I am incorrect in how I am explaining what has transpired.
"you don't know what your missing until you have heard it"  cannot be more true.

Tape Project Machines / MX-55 or a 5050 Mk III?
« on: August 22, 2008, 08:50:50 PM »
I could use some help with a table top deck.  I have a chance to pick up one of either of these.  Both look good, cost about the same but not knowing a lot about either is there a consensus on which would be better for the TP tapes?  Both are two track quarter inch decks.  Thanks so much for any help.

I have a fun Idea.  Why not have those subscribers just "Announce" their ten releases!  Lets see,
Art Pepper Meets the Rhythm Section
True Blue
Monk's Music
Canciones Del Mi Padre
Cool Struttin'
Jazz Espagnol
Rooster Blues
Cookin'
Kind of Blue
Beethoven Violin Concerto Fritz Riner...

That feels better already!
I love the work you guys do.  My best hour of the day is my TP hour.  Just amazing stuff!  Keep it up!

Reel to Reel Tape Machines / TASCAM 1000
« on: June 21, 2008, 06:12:16 PM »
Hey Guys I don't have a clue about this deck.  A friend of mine wants to get into the Project.  Will this deck do the job?  With Bottlehead mod?  I need to pick it up tomorrow for him, if it will work.  Oh yea 50.00 which is not much.  It works, looks good cosmetically, and the man is quite elderly.  I am sure it needs "Some" work being it's age.
Thanks in advance.

Suggestion Box / Blue Note
« on: May 17, 2008, 08:27:34 PM »
Enjoying some of Music Matters 45's.  Wishing, hoping, and wondering is it even in the realm of possibility that EMI would let these tapes be reproduced by the TP?  How about some Contemporary Art Pepper?  Rhythm section, way out west, +11....  Here's a weird one How about Canciones de mi Padre by Linda Ronstadt??  I love this piece, it is crazy, and quite good.

General Discussion / Re: Studer/Mark Levinson?

From what I understand this is an A-80RC, with ML mods.  Your right about a lot of money, I wonder if it is that much better than a stock RC?  Would an RC with a Bottlehead amp be more practical?  Might sound better too...

Suggestion Box / Re: Your fav. T. Monk?
« on: December 15, 2007, 08:58:19 PM »
Monk's music is absolutely amazing, among my fav's.  You forgot Thelonious "Himself".  If you have never heard this on vinyl, mono first pressing it is piano like no other.  Just beautiful.  Again a great lp.  I would also suggest on the Riverside label Thelonious Monk plays Ellington.  I think Kenny Clarke, and Oscar Pettiford hook up with him on this one, a superb lp.

Tape Project Albums - general / My inexperience is showing...
« on: December 12, 2007, 01:50:12 PM »
What can I say, I did not know that the tapes were sent out needing to be put on the opposite side and rewound prior to play.  The funny thing is I kept trying to "Get" Jackie and while it was good, there was just something not right...  Being Dyslexic must have helped me understand her.  This whole thing is so different than vinyl.  Exciting for me..

Suggestion Box / RVG BLUE NOTE, PRESTIGE JAZZ/BLUES
« on: December 04, 2007, 04:13:03 PM »
I would love to see Blue Note, Prestige etc.  Artists like Lee Morgan, Hank Mobley, Sonny Clark, Donald Byrd, Tina Brooks, Lou Donaldson and on and on...  Just about any great Hard Bop.
Some of Contemporary Labels stuff like Art Pepper Meets the Rythym Section, AP plus 11...
If possible some of the Bluesville Label's good stuff from 1959-1963 as this was superb stuff.  Lightnin' Hopkins, Roosevelt Sykes, Sonny Terry, Brownie McGhee....
Just a few thoughts.
