Tape Project Machines / Re: New website - j-corder.com

Hey Doc,
In the above photograph the faces of the VU meters are Black. Did Jeff change the meters (Sony?) or did he reface them for this machine? Always thought the white faced Technics meters were a distraction. Have to admit that is one Very Pretty RS1700!

Best Regards and best wishes for your CES success

With respects to Lester Young and in light of your illustrious partners monikers I don't see how you could be anything but the "Pres"

I'd vote for ya!

Waltz for Debby / Re: I can get you a better copy for cheaper...
« on: October 16, 2007, 11:09:08 PM »
I?m awestruck having held the original Waltz for Debbie session tapes in my hands. Listening to it I just could not believe how close Scott LaFaro was to the front of the stage and that couple with the clinking glasses were sitting at the end of the Camilla Room console. Paul Motian on the right, whispering with a drum kit - cool yet hot. I?ve always had this recording on my desert island list, now that I?ve actually heard it?spine tingling, breathe taking, stunning stuff.
Found myself silently promising to do everything I could to get my system to the point where I could share this musical experience with my friends.
Doc, Romo and Paul where sitting there listening also, smiling to a man. I finally understood why these guys are working this hard and risking so much; they love the music and really enjoy sharing it with people who like music. Lucky us.

Regards to you all, Chuck

Tape Project Albums - general / Re: The last three titles for 2007
« on: September 25, 2007, 12:56:00 AM »
Was with Doc, Paul and Romo in the Camilla Room last Saturday evening, listened to the original masters of Waltz for Debbie (One of my Desert Island Albums) Stunning stuff. Listened to some Moss Allison and the Arnold Overtures. And have some thoughts on the experience.
--A 1st Generation Master Tape will overshadow ANY source you have if the RTR is even close to being right.
--I'm going to buy as many tapes as possible, these guys LOVE music, chances of a dog ending up in the mailbox is smaller than W getting elected to a third term.
--That was my fifth or sixth time listening in the Camilla room. While it IS the pinnacle of home listening rooms the Magic is the medium.
--I can hardly wait!

Regards to all, Chuck

General Discussion / Re: Audiophile Heaven!
« on: April 04, 2007, 11:56:24 PM »
Was very lucky to be at the studio the evening Jacqui cut that album during the birthday fest for Doc. I made at least six trips between the control room and the Camellia room doing the "is it live or memorex" thing and I can tell you three things. Romo and Paul are almost criminally good at listening, sitting in the sweet spot in the Camellia room listening to the combined efforts of Alon, Doc, PJ, JT, Romo, Paul S. and several other people cut from the same magic is to know the goal. And thirdly, that girl can SING!

Tape Tech / Re: Spec's for RS1500 heads (so far)
« on: January 28, 2007, 06:36:49 PM »
Flux Mag.      1/2 track   200 Mhy    45 ohm DCR
Stock            1/2 track   200 Mhy   185 ohm DCR
JFR               1/2 track   370 Mhy   500 ohm DCR
My question: is there a relationship between more milahenry's and performance? How is DCR significant, isolation?

Thanks for any replies.

Tape Project Machines / Re: Seduction Tape Head Preamp available
« on: January 23, 2007, 07:06:37 PM »
Let me say first that I am a Bottlehead and one of Doc's several hundred long distance friends. That aside, note this tapestage pre being driven by a STOCK head RS-1500 received a standing ovation at CES 2007. I have bought one and finally have a functional RS to hook it up to. If your like me there is that question "can we get everything singing together well enough to get someone to applaud?"

Reel to Reel Tape Machines / RS-1500 Finally up and running
« on: January 23, 2007, 11:22:29 AM »
After some reading of this forum and the maintenance manual I finally got my RS-1500 to record and playback last night. The root cause, the machine was so dirty and had so much buildup of "stuff" on the mechanism and heads that it couldn't read or make a strong signal for the tape. After cleaning the tape path and heads I recorded Jacqui Naylors "Shelter" and learned something else, 15 ips really eats up some tape!
Now that we've seen the ballpark it is time to step up and try for first base. This is really fun! Thanks Doc for going in this direction.

Regards, Chuck
