Tape Tech / Reel screws and barrel nuts
« on: December 31, 2009, 06:32:45 AM »
I have a friend who has 200 flanges and 100 hubs but no screws and nuts to assemble them. Anyone know an off-the-shelf source?
Thanks.

Suggestion Box / Another Monk?
« on: December 11, 2009, 08:05:39 AM »
I wonder if Paul has auditioned "Thelonious In Action At The Five Spot"? Every vinyl release sounds a bit lacking in attack & presence. If this is NOT a shortcoming of the Riverside master I humbly propose it as a candidate if ever a second Monk tape is to be considered for release.

Reel to Reel Tape Machines / Crusty C37

This has been unearthed from the back of someone's garage. The current owner describes the top deck as "rough as a pineapple"!

How does this rate as a challenge?
Easy? Moderate? Difficult? Hard Difficult?...

Any pointers?

Thanks.

General Discussion / Anyone making 15 ips 2-track copies of CDs?

Rumour has it that they can benefit from a little ferric oxide ;o)

I have several favourite CDs of music which is unlikely to be re-released on vinyl and there is something soothing about spinning spools.
Maybe they boost alpha waves in the brain....

Hello. I have a well-used Lyrec FRED editor which I have purchased to enable the use of large spools with a Nagra IV. However, I wonder if anyone has had experience modifying such a Lyrec for high quality playback duties? I was thinking of perhaps taking signal from the head (it only has the one of course) to an external valve pre-amp such as the Bottlehead.
Advice would be appreciated by this "newbie" who last spun spools 47 years ago!
Thanks.

Brian.
