Progress on Austin Recording Tech Museum
« on: July 15, 2014, 08:15:37 AM »
The Museum of Magnetic Sound Recording has launched an Indiegogo project that will help the Museum jump start several initial projects as we work toward the creation of a permanent facility. Created in 2012, the Museum was established to provide a permanent public non-profit museum that preserves the history of sound recording and its impact on music, broadcasting, film, video & science.

Below are links to the floor plan and content list of the Austin sound recording museum.  We  are excited to announce that the University of Texas School of Architecture will make our Museum a project for their Interior Design class.

The Museum is an approved 501(c)3 and all donations are tax deductible.  We would really appreciate any donations you're able to provide.  All comments and recommendations appreciated.  Thank you!  Cheers!

Great idea!
I see that these are the machines from Phantom's.
As reel to reel fans, I'm sure that most of the members here have reaped benefits from your site which has been linked to many times on this forum.
Good luck with this venture and keep us informed!

Would like to see that but now the link seems to be broken. I have VanPraag's book.
I emailed with him in the past. Wondering how he is doing. I thought at one point he had to sell his collection he based his book on.

This seems to be a link to the interview. -

Thanks for letting us know about the link to Phil's video. Looks like there are some artifacts in the initial link. This one should be good.http://museumofmagneticsoundrecording.org/Video/Phil0712314.mov

You may also go down this page and click on the link in Phil's description. http://museumofmagneticsoundrecording.org/Media.html

Article about the need for the Museum by Lynne Margolis for the Austin Monthly magazine  http://museumofmagneticsoundrecording.org/AustinMonthlyPress.html

Article in the Country Line magazine about our Museum's fund raising - the magazine is a supporting donor http://museumofmagneticsoundrecording.org/CountryLinePress.html

Founding donor contributions by the Metzner family (Califone/Roberts/Akai) and Will Harrison of Space studios in Austin.
Donations have been received from numerous other studios and other international supporters of the Museum
We could really use your help in these final days. This fund raiser is very important to the Museum's goals and also will be used as a guide to evaluate future support for an Austin recording technology and music Museum. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/833222/emal/7999595

We really appreciate everyone's input and support!

Wow, things seem like they're moving right along!
Great to see that the Disney World gear is being saved.
Does that include the 24 track, 2" continuous bin machine from Epcot?

Amazing stuff.

You really should post some info about the museum over on the Ampex list. Maybe I missed it but folks like Jay McKnight might be able to hook you guys up with Stanford University who took over the museum that used to be in the lobby of Ampex Redwood City.
As far as I know, the only thing the university has done with that collection is restore and display an Ampex 200 in one of the libraries (maybe a VR machine too).
The photos they have should be on display somewhere IMHO.

Happy New Year!
Here's a link to our end of 2014 MOMSR.org status report. http://museumofmagneticsoundrecording.org/2014ProgressReport.htm

We sincerely appreciate all the support and encouragement this past year.

On a sad note, we were very saddened to learn of the passing of Robert G. Metzner on December 21, 2014. He was a Founding Donor to the Museum. More about his life at this link. http://museumofmagneticsoundrecording.org/StoriesRoberts.html

Cheers!
Martin Theophilus
