Craig, the only way to get something to explode is to insert the shorting plug - or the input preamp card, if you're putting that back in - incorrectly.  I know someone who did that to one of the cards in their B77. Just be careful to align the connectors properly and not shit a pin up or down, and you'll be fine.  I like plug-in reversible mods...
