Tape Tech / Re: Need help - hubs for Otari MX5050 BIII
« on: May 23, 2015, 02:42:18 PM »
I thought the BIII had the spindles like most consumer decks, that the tip pulls out and twists. Meaning you can use ant NAB dadpter that a Teac, Revox or Sony uses. The BII has solid shaft spidles which need Otari KWOH009 or TW-670. I like VIF adapters on my BII machines.

I would start cleaning, DeOxit, the switches. If there is an internal speed switch that is dirty it can stop the capstan motor. Same with the front panel speed switch as well as the pitch control. Just unplugging and re-seating all the plugs on the main board fixed a dead take up motor on one if my decks. Otari decks are touch to kill.

I wish the NY show later this year could have this seminar. While in wish mode, I would love to attend the Axpona Chicago show.

Tape playback is subjective until the respondent hears a TP tape. Then, no contest.

Why not wire from the headblock so both ¼ & ½ track heads use your external tape head amp? Also the Tape Project tapes are ½ track.

General Discussion / Re: Info Regarding RMGI/Pyral
« on: March 22, 2015, 07:42:13 PM »
I just bought 3 pancakes of Pyral RMGI LPR35 from an ebay seller in Latvia http://www.ebay.com/itm/131460800551?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT. They show Pyral boxes and note a 1-2 week restock. No affiliation.

General Discussion / What happened?
« on: March 14, 2015, 02:20:27 PM »
This forum has been so quiet. Sometimes when scanning the post reply dates they jive with the last few days but are from 2012. The Show unread posts link has never shown me anything. Scrolling down the the bootom of the page gleans the latest post info anyway. I never saw an enormous amount of User and guests at any time but the posts have become farther apart than makes sence. Now I should not talk since I have not been able to listen to my tapes for some time. But, I see sales were brisk and not one review has surfaced. This was a tape lovers place as well as Tape Project forum with a good amount of info and qestions and answers. What happened?

Tape Project Albums - general / TP-024 on eBay
« on: December 22, 2014, 09:32:52 PM »
I was checking out the tapes on eBay when I found this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Master-tape-15-ips-CCIR-Reel2Reel-Nat-King-Cole-sings-George-Shearing-plays-1962-/321617279179?pt=Music_Other_Formats&hash=item4ae1e238cb I offered $250 explaining that an unopened copy currently could be bought for $300. The offer was automatically rejected.  This just seems ridiculous for a non out of print item.

Tape Project Machines / Re: Flux Magnetics Heads
« on: December 21, 2014, 11:23:57 AM »
Thanks Paul. There was some questions raised on the Tapeheads forum. I think they were looking for a source of ¼ track heads. I realized, after posting my question, that Flux Magnetics was making ½ track heads.
