Aha! You're several steps ahead of me there sir! I'd got as far as getting hold of original 1500 and 1520 schematics and taking a preliminary look (all with a view to modding my 1500 to be switchable) but on realising it would take some further study the project's been shelved for some weeks. I'll take another look: this is something I'm very keen to do.
Actually, might you be persuaded in due course to produce a handy step-by-step guide, similar to the 'How to route direct from RS1500 heads to external pre-amp' walk through... (for us less expert technicians - I'm not a beginner, but neither am I a qualified tech).
Very much hope so - a large part of the reason I put off further investigation was realising the gap between seeing what needs to be done on paper, and figuring out how to do it with the physical components! :-)
Best wishes,
Chas Levin, U.K.
PS - just noticed how embarrassingly late to the party I am in replying to this thread: sorry, been away from the forum a while...

Apologies if folks already know this, but:

Teac X1000M

This version of the X1000 series has a NAB/IEC EQ switch (for play and rec) on the inner chassis (you have to remove the outer casing), it plays at 7 1/2 and 15 and it plays 2 and 4 track. The 'M' suffix stands for mastering - the deck does not have reverse play, but does include dbx Type I noise reduction, 'EE'-type tape mode plus everything else the X1000 series has, including the ability to mount 10.5 inch reels...
