It is quiet here ... Just heavy whips as doc is rushing to get more tapes out the door.
I kinda am waiting for the next 4 titles before I start saving for series #2.

I agree about dimming the lights. I have to go a tad farther ... kill the circuit breaker
for the fridge and the freezer since I live in a one room apartment.

So far I have got three tapes and none of the music I like ... So much for my taste.
None the less this is a impressive tape, while I don't think the music hit 0DB on the meter, you can feel the surround sound of the orchestra pit swell to fill the room.
Forget 5.1 sound and Star Wars effects, this is what stereo was meant to be!
Long live Prof. Johnson's recordings.

Perhaps the better thing to do is look at why you have the frequency
cut offs you do, in you schematic, and fix values if need be. If you don't buy
'audio' parts resistors and caps are cheap compared to when it came out.
Still it may be time to have another look at it, and just see what is does
with a alignment tape.

I guess 'Night of the living dead' is a SS movie then.  Now what are some
good 'valve' movies to watch. :)  I suspect the problem with SS is that the active
devices are designed for power out, rather than good amplication. Some people
figure the best tube is the 45 that was designed in 1945... oops 1929. All I know
is music has been going downhill since Pentodes and quad LP's came out. Right
now I a trying to put together a 6a5 PP Amp and finding the right caps is a pain.
I would like to stick what could have been out at the time, and later build a second
version with modern 'audio' quality parts ... some day to compare the two.

Guatanamera by The Sandpipers is a nice change of pace is what I  found . Down Mexico Way by The 50 guitars of Tommy Garret really reminds you how dynamic music
out side of the USA can be.

Now the optional parts ... power cord and probes are often overlooked too.
Last time I looked, inexpensive probes can be found here.

Now why can't they be clearing out old R2R pre-recorded tapes instead!?
Good luck with those who can pick up a machine or two.

Comments with the basic stock R2R
Why have I missed out for the last 40+ years real music, untill now?
This type of music, you take the phone off the hook, lock the door ,
turn down the lights and have 20 minutes of pure bliss.

General Discussion / Re: The SACD vs Tape Challenge
« on: February 17, 2009, 03:17:06 PM »
Check check ... testing one two three *loud feedback *.
I'll stick my money still on analog audio. What I question is the Digital to analog
conversion in modern equipment, as they all seem to use the same $.95 part
if it not covered under some patented software format. There is no midrange in
digital any more it seems. As for SACD it seems off hand still limited by sample
rate to 44KHZ if I remember right.

Oh, the doc forgot to say,  the bottlehead site is updated with info on the new pre-amp.
ARG! more ways to spend my $$$ money this month.
