Tape Project Machines / Re: lots of machines shipping
« on: June 09, 2008, 08:32:12 PM »
Hello docb,

Any chance you will be selling reel spacers for RS-1500s separately? I still have my originals and they are in good shape, but I'm always worried something is
going to happen to them.

Many Thanks for your help.
Enjoy your weekend!

Hello All,

I am having a small problem with the 2-4 track selector switch on my RS-1500's headblock (RP-2224).
Seems there is intermittent contact and periodically lose output on one or both channels. I have to jiggle the
switch to make things right.

My hope is that the switch only needs cleaning and is not damaged. My question is, does the headblock have to removed from the
machine in order to clean the switch? How does one safely remove the headblock from the machine and how could this hurt head alignment?

Thanks

Hello All,

I would like to offer a cure that worked for my shrieking RS-1500. As everyone has realized it is indeed the pulley driving the counter that causes the problem.
Here's what I did to cure it.

1)Once locating the offending pulley I CAREFULLY removed the c-clip holding the pulley to the shaft and GINGERLY unthreaded the belts from said pulley.
2)I obtained a precision lubricator from Radio Shack that contains teflon based lubricant. You can find this in any Radio Shack it looks like a clear plastic pen.
A couple of drops in the shaft will do, you don't need much.
3)Apply some NO-SLIP belt dressing to the belts.
4)Put the pulley back on and rethread the belts(a bit fiddly but can be done)
5)Put the small c-clip back on
6)Enjoy peace and quiet during FF and RR.

I have used this cure my myself and it is very effective and does not harm the machine in any way. The best part is the repair lasts for years.

I know this is an old post, but I thought someone might still find usefull.

Thanks

Hey all!
Glad you liked my suggestions.
I've been doing some thinking and here are some more:

1)Crosby Stills and Nash:  Album name:Crosby Stills and Nash
2)Boston                    :  Album name:Boston
3)John Lennon             :  Album name:Double Fantasy
4)Billy Joel                  :Album name(s):The Stranger
                                                      52nd Street
Let's hope at least some of these can be done.
I second dwilawyer's thought's about CCR. As for a stereo version of Pet Sounds I don't think that could ever happen. I heard that some of the multi-track tapes are missing, making a true stereo mix impossible. When I purchased the Pet Sounds Sessions CD box, they tried a Stereo mix but it wasn't that great due to what I've mentioned earlier.

I'm really something of a purist, I think Pet Sounds should stay Mono IMHO.
Glad everyone enjoyed the list.

Tape Tech / Demagnetizing
« on: April 15, 2008, 01:56:10 PM »
Anybody here demagnetize their machines?
I've actually never done this to my 1500 and I heard some say it is not required.
I'm trying to find out if demagnetizers are still available.

Thanks
