We wouldn't expect (accept?) something else would we?. Seriously guys, keep up with the good job!

Thanks Charles,

Did you include the "new" two track offerings (TP et al?)?

Reel to Reel Tape Machines / Re: Ampex 300

Dave has been helping my friend Jorge put his 350 back on service and I hear he's a nice guy.

My machine was serviced and adjusted by Len Horowitz from "The history of recorded sound". These guys are into vinyl lathe reconstruction and servicing and know their business. My machine is as nice as you can get. But shipping is always hard to bear on wiring. Ask Dan about our recent experiences!

I have an Ampex 300 transport that was purchased NOS. It was serviced and it has extended response heads (both 2 and 4 track). It sounds amazing. Can't still decide whether I like it more than the Spitz ATR. It is that good. It is an idler machine and as such shares the house signature of my beloved Garrard 301.

Unfortunately some connection failed and I have to fix it but haven't got to it yet. But the failure has given me the opportunity to study it. It's an amazing tractor.

Saludos

Ps I suscribed to the Ampex list today.

Tape Tech / Re: Head direct out/internal electronics switching

For my Nagra IV-s Charles had a great idea. He used the NR jack which has (me thinks) eight pins. I have different plugs, one gets the signal from the 4 track head, another from the two track one, a third one gets the signal from the two track heads and sends it back to its original path thus making the machine electronics operational. Not that they sound good though!

I'll give this a try but I'm not an expert. I understnd there's physical alignment and electronic one. Physical alignment consists in making sure the tape and heads are aligned and consists in adjusting azymuth, head height, etc. That alignment does not depend on the electronics you use.

Electronic alignment conaists in setting up the electronics, together with the transport, so that you get a flat response. Obviously this is done for a specific preamp.

Tape Tech / Re: Eros or Seduction, What To Do?
« on: July 16, 2012, 05:17:13 AM »
Hey Bob,

I agree with the Eros. The Seduction is very good. The Eros is just another league.

You say you're buying a second hand one? Why not build it yourself?

Listens2Tubes,

I'm Sorry but being a non_English speaker I don't understand the nature of your post (except that I have a big mouth).

You grabbed the Gregorian Chants and the Pulcinella!

I know 'cause I tried to get them and they're gone.

In addition to the two articles there's a podcast of an interview with a certain Dan Schmalle who also talks about RtR and the TP. If you can bear listening to him for a couple of hours, that is.
