I've had a IV-S for quite some time but haven't used it much... never took it with me! Finally I decided to bring it as I have been out of town for several days and working out of a hotel room for many hours. So, my portable system consists of a Cambridge Soundworks Model 12, and the IV-S... sounds VERY good. In reacquainting myself, I saw up top of the machine a lovely switch that allows CCIR or NAB playback. Mind you, to do a 10.5" reel you'll need the ultra-rare QGB adapter but the machine itself will work quite nicely and they're absolutely bulletproof-durable.

Reel to Reel Tape Machines / Technics RS-1800?

Looks like I'm about to become the new owner of an RS-1800. Anyone ever seen one up close and personal? Looks like it has separate head preamps outboard... I'd love to know if I can use THOSE outputs to go into another preamp (say, the Manley Tapeheads).

I think Ani DiFranco's "Not a Pretty Girl" would be great, not sure if it's analogue or not. Also, I recommended this to Dan wayyyy back when; Jonatha Brooke's earlier albums (and her collaberations with The Story I think) are all analogue and I believe she owns the rights. GREAT stuff. Just about anything Patricia Barber would be amazing.

Dire Straits' Love over Gold would be amazing but that's a looong shot. Also, Alan Parsons' I Robot, the RCA/Reiner Scheherazade... damn there's a lot of content that's worthwhile!
