Tape Project Albums - general / Re: Latest shipping News
« on: December 25, 2008, 12:37:57 AM »
Howdy All,
Sorry I have been absent here for awhile. Working hard to get the tapes out to everyone.
I wanted to updates Dan's last post. The artwork that was overnighted from Bottleheadquarters on Thursday arrived Tuesday, the Friday Overnight Arrived today around 4pm. Needless to say I needed both shipments to get all of the catch up tapes out (1-8 to those who haven't gotten theirs yet). UPS informed me that they will not even begin pickups again until Monday. So instead of shipping in time for Christmas, UPS held us up. Now I won't be able to get them to you by New Years. Bummer. I'm very sorry. We all wanted everyone to have new Tapes before the end of the year. Oh So Close but just not quite.
That being said, I have 112 ish tapes ready to go out. Take that mister UPS man....
Standby... They a' Comin'

Merry Christmas to all...
And thank you for being a part of this with us.
Happy Listening

Damn Jay, That's some mighty fine praise, indeed. Thanks so much.
We had the same feeling before we started this crazy idea. Now we get to share. Thanks for letting us.
More on the way as we can get them out...
Happy listening.

Hey Xavier,
We would love to have you come by the studio. Unfortunately, as far as a visit goes, I will be in Nashville from the 26th through the 3rd. I'll check with Paul and see if he will around to show you the studio and maybe play you a few things as well.
I hope you have a great trip.

Fresh batch of alignment tapes are done. We will be shipping them out at the begining of the week to folks who haven't recieved theirs yet. We also made spares to have some on hand and ready to ship much faster than these took to get ready.
Also, as the artwork  shows up, and Dan did a great job with it-looks very cool, TP-003 will ship right away with TP-004 now dupped. Grinding away on the reels for #4 so that should follow closely on the heels of #3.
So if Dan is the Dr., and Paul is the Chief...I'm going to have to come up with a prefix...

HEads up Ya'll...TP-003 has been duped. The numbers are being engraved as I type. Just a matter of a few days until the next set ships. : ) It's a killer.

Paul is Mastering the Robert Cray right now as well. And Damn if it don't sound gooood. Dan is working like a madman on cover art and tapedecks. Madman I tell you.
...oh yeah...We will have alignment tapes ready to go out to those waiting in a few days as well... It's a different set of gears to to get those ready, but standby, they are coming....

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

The Number White / Re: TP-001. Has anyone received it yet?
« on: November 14, 2007, 04:46:45 PM »
OK...As of today... right now as a matter fact, we have completed shipment of all of TP-001 . Charter and Selective subscribers.  Yee Friggin Haw.( Yes I guess I do talk like that sometimes, Dan )  They should be arriving in their appointed destinations within days in the states, a little longer for those in far away places. So find a nice Cab or a smokey single malt, comfy chair, get ready to turn off the phone and put the dog out....

TP-002 is now in production and they should be hitting the big brown trucks round Monday.

More to come.

Thanks again everyone for all of your patience while we worked out the system to get you the very best.

Tape Project Albums - general / Re: more alignment tapes shipping today
« on: November 08, 2007, 05:49:47 PM »
OK.... get ready...
The first ever Tape Project release shipped today. It was serial number TP 002. It went to A guy named Doc B in Paulsbo Washington. He will be taking pictures of it when it gets there tomorrow and posting them on the site for all to see what the final package will look like. I am currently milling catalogue numbers into the reel flanges. Next step is the serial numbers. Then shipping for everyone else. At the very latest, Monday. At the very earliest, Saturday. The milling takes roughly 45 minutes per set, so it's really just a matter of man hours now.
By the way Paul's serial number is TP 001. I am TP 003. That's why 002 was the one that went to Dan.

Align those decks folks...here they come...

....how much loss there really was in going from the 1" running master to the 1/4" Tape project album. My answer? Only about 3/4".

Still love that answer.....

Hey Craig, Paul and I will both be at AES roaming the hall, talking to folks, and taking in some panels. BTW, Paul is on a panel moderated by Bob Ludwig. I highly suggest checking that out.

See you there.

and thanks for asking questions...We aim to please

General Discussion / Re: Tape Project demo, Saturday September 22
« on: September 27, 2007, 11:38:17 AM »
So we had a great listening on Saturday. Thanks to all who showed up. Very nice wine Chuck. Thanks.
I just wanted to relate an experience from that afternoon that reminded me why we are doing this. When choosing titles we have an executive meeting and throw out everything we can think of that we'd like to do as well as look at the suggestions posted on this forum. After that we get copies of the music to each other so everyone can hear what we are considering. When the Robert Cray title came up and we listened, liked it and could get the rights. So it got added to the first years catalogue. Cool. Now comes Saturday's listening. At this point I had only heard the CD. Paul cued up the recently acquired master for us to hear, Chuck poured us a glass a wine... Press play... whoa...I got all shivery. Not because the AC was on, not because the music was great (which it was), not the wine (hadn't even sipped yet), but because my sense of smell took me back to college. I was immediately transported back to college, back to the club I was in where I first heard Robert Cray. I could smell the bar. You know, that stale beer smell on the floor, the amps and the instruments, the musicians and crowd. I was doing live sound in this club in Bowling Green Kentucky and the console area was perched up a bit in this cold concrete semi-underground building. Even the carpeting and the console in the booth had a smell. I shivered because of the fondness I could feel from the memory of that place. The time it took me to. WOW. There was a realness about that tape playing back that I never ever got from playing the cd. The memory flood. The transportation. The experience. That's why we do this.

Hey Hopkins,
THanks again for coming by on Saturday. Nice meeting you.
Creedence is surely on our list. The hurdle, as with any title, is that we can get the rights to the master. Some, even under the same label umbrella, are held closer to the bone than others. Cosmo's Factory would be very nice indeed. We'll keep you informed.
Thanks again.

Suggestion Box / Re: Beatles White album

That is one I would REALLY like to do. The problem, of course, is the licensing. Apple is having a dickens of a time getting their catalogue on iTunes. And when they do, they will surely sell Millions and millions. And look at all the bargaining power and market presence they have. Maybe they would jump at doing something like this that is so out of the norm for labels that we'd have a shot. Very Long shot indeed.
The other hurdle would be getting the master tapes. Paul and Dan and I got to go backstage at the Beatles "Love" in Las Vegas during CES. We had a great time and very much recommend the show if anyone gets a chance to go. We got to see how they put the production together and heard some fascinating stories about what they went through to transfer the original tapes to mix for the show and the cd/dvd. They estimate the the value of the Beatles tape catalog is greater than the value of the crown jewels. It would probably be easier to get copies of Karl Rove's emails...
If anyone as any Ins, we'd be happy to explore them.
Michael
