It appears using Catalog Number and Title searches produce in no results. But Artist search got me the Benny Goodman 2T Omegatape I was searching for with those methods. (picture a smiley scatching it's head)

I was hoping for something more in line with RMAF. I just hope this show has nothing in common with the last Home Entertainment NYC in 2005. The Hilton sucked!!!!

BTW: How do you work smileys around here?

On plastic parts like the buttons I use acetone. OK calm down! I damp a cloth and swipe the surface, which can smooth most aberrations, the polish. Otherwise blot for a stippling effect, then sand and polish. Have revived O gauge cabooses, laptop skins, a Teac head cover. Anything that's the same color all the way thru.

Today I decided to clean the heads and tape path on my Teac X-3. Now this machine has always stood on top of a file cabinet where it is at eye level. I replaced(cleaned the goo away with alchohol) the main belt when it first got here. But never looked at the heads with tape running across them. Well I did today and boy was the alignment off. So I visually set the heads as I listen. It was off balance with center imaging off to the right. Using the Balance control on my preamp I found the left to sound muffled compared to the right , which no amount of fiddling with head adjustments could fix. Then it dawned on me..
DEMAGNETISE THE HEADS
Now amazingly well balanced sweet open sound eminates from the speakers. If this thing can sound so good I can't wait to finish modding my Otari!

They arrived today. Are nicely cut cardboard which measure .023". Compared to my Teac rubber ones measuring .026" as stated below for the Otari spacers.

Having 4 5050's and counting there are a few things that have worked for me. First get some contact cleaner, ie; Caig DeoxIT. Try spraying the internal Ho-Low speed switch on the control board. That's the one that folds down. Just cleaning that switch has fixed odd brake and speed/operation problems on 2 decks. Next unplug a re-plug all connectors on the boards. Then clean the front panel speed switch as well as the speed switch on the head block. Try working all the switches 20-30 times, including the switches on the back panel. Look at the capacitors on the control board. Inspect those cans for bulging tops amd or leaking goo. See this thread for tweaks: http://www.tapeproject.com/smf/index.php/topic,2037.0.html Generally if it plugs in pull it and re-seat it. Also the capstan motor should be movable with the deck off and static. If you push down on the capstan it shoud move down easily and spring back up. If it does'nt you need to remove it to clean and oil the assembly. I will be doing this to one of my decks soon. I'll try to document the steps with pix. Enjoy!

Reel to Reel Tape Machines / Re: Otari MX-5050 mods, impressive!

Hi Steve, I used the Cardas 33ga. tonearm wire from cartridge clips to Copper Bullets and a solder pot is a key to burning the enamel off. As for the 4 conductor wire, I like the idea of 2 twisted pairs for IC's. Though the characteristics of the balanced 2 conductor/sheild cables should be the same.

Prerecorded Tapes / Re: removing adhesive from tapes help

I'm not sure how this would affect tape but I've used Rubber Cement thinners/solvent from Bestine to remove sticky stuff from many things like book or album covers. This is a Neptane formula.
