 I have a Technics RS-1500US.

The only fault it has is it is not IEC. I thought that IEC was for record only. I would like to modify my machine for IEC. Does someone point me to instructions on how to?

I don't mean the rotary knobs, but the ones used on the monitor, tape select, and rec mode switches. Ideally, I would like to upgrade to the aluminum knobs used to some other models. All I'm missing is one black one, if that is all I can get.

Thank you.

I am not worried (right now) about those chips, I just thought for the future.

Hello, I hope it's not too late ...

I would suggest changing all the electrolytic caps .

Clean any dirt/dust out.

deox all switches and pots.

replace the two counter belts, they are probably in bad shape, you also may hear a squeal from the counter, I used a toothpick and some lubricant to correct that..
Check the condition of the two roller guides, they might need to be replaced. The DIY kit here is a good start.

Buy/download the service manual.

 hello, My name is Gene.

I've been a long time audio nut, I prefer tubes and turntables, and just got a great deck, a RS 1500.

I know it's not a pro deck, but it's close enough for me.

Back a long time ago, I took a 2 year audio engineering course, and I remember the Neve 16 track desk, and two MCI tape decks, a 16 track and a 2 track deck.

Coming from a technician background, I am impressed with the capstan motor of the technics, and how well it maintains speed. Oh, and that flywheel is massive!

I hope to learn things here, and the first question I have is about someone having a handle on the custom IC's used on the capstan motor board. Are they still available, if so, how much? might not be a bad thing to have some replacements in stock, just in case.
