« on: August 20, 2010, 06:34:55 AM »
In this topic i have found info about Originals for TP Albums
http://www.tapeproject.com/smf/index.php/topic,224.0.html

Technological chain for TP tape release:
Source (original or final mix master or album master) >> TP production copy 1" 2 track stereo 30 ips >> TP copy 1/4" 2 track stereo 15 ips

TP releases

TP-001, Jacqui Naylor's The Number White
album master 1" 2 track stereo 30 (?) ips >> clone

TP-002, Dave Alvin's Blackjack David
album master 1/2" 2 track stereo 30 (?) ips >> clone

TP-004, Robert Cray's False Accusations
album master 1/4" 2 track stereo 30 ips >> clone

TP-009, Mose Allison's Creek Bank
original 1/4" 2 track stereo 15 ips >> clone (or mastering?)

TP-010, Sonny Rollins' Saxophone Colossus
original 1/4" 2 track stereo 15 ips >> clone (or mastering?)

Concept of "master tape" and "copy"

Standard technological chain from original to public copy

(0) Single piece multitrack original (1 piece, 30 ips, 2?/24 track) >> mix of piece
(1) Single piece final mix master (1 piece, 30 ips, ??/2 track stereo) >> album mastering
(2) Album master (album side or set of pieces, 30 ips, ??/2 track stereo) >> EQ for copy type
(3) Production copy (album or side, 15 ips, ??/2 track stereo)
(4) Copy (or matrix of copy)

What is about originals for other releases?
I think that this info very interesting for lot of potencial buyers of TP tapes.

Unfortunately it is not that clear cut in terms of format and speed. Generally we are working from is what you are defining as a "single piece final mix master", or from a session tape if it was mixed on the fly. In other words, Paul edits the songs together in order from the various reels of the first two track generation of the recording as he creates the running master. We have not worked with the multitrack tapes except in the case where we did the original recording.
