Hello Paul,

Can you illuminate us with any details on the hardware you use in the "Stubb-U-Sonic" mastering chain?  I am particularly curious about the equalization hardware you may employ to contour the final TP release.  Thank you for your consideration.

Well,

Should the source tape be reproduced on the playback machine at an accurate speed, i.e., 15 ips, and recorded on the dupe machine at an accurate speed, i.e., 15 ips...where is the putative delay
?

Since many here still use those obselete thermionic devices, thought it might be of interest :)

Raw Tape / Just read about this...

I just read that RMGI is being sold to Pyral, a French company. This was posted:

on GS.  Apparently, Pyral has an office in Mission Viejo, CA -- hope it's a positive portent.

Reel to Reel Tape Machines / Voila ;-)

Hi folks,
It turns out that I had ordered the 5050 B2 roller, and not the 5050 B3 roller that I needed. I am going over to Athan tomorrow and exchange the rollers.  The B2 roller is quite a bit bigger than the B3 roller, though both have the same interior opening.   Thanks, Larry

Ah, that's good stuff, Steve :-)

A colleague, who was raised in Alaska, described a job wherein he and others would work inside a petroleum pipeline adorned in full-on hazmat suits, breathing apparatus, etc.

Funny...I never had those kinds of jobs in college - haha
.

I wouldn't use acetone on any parts of a tape path. Some heads are sealed together with epoxy resins as are guides. Acetone will dissolve epoxy.

I've applied acetone, sparingly...when I had SSS :-(
Thanks for your reply, Steve.

The one can of Cl100 that came with a label used to have the ingredients on it but now it's just a fuzzy blur. Maybe I'll shoot off a email to Kurt over at US Recording Media to find out.

Perhaps, you could request the MSDS for the product from them.

Thanks.

Hi Larry,

So, one doesn't send in the original pinch roller, which is then rebuilt by Athan?
I'm afraid it would bother me if I couldn't replace the cap :-(
Have you inquired of Athan, directly?

Saw Doc B on one of Rochlin's vids...quite enjoyed it -- you were marvelous, Doc (me...channeling Billy Crystal) :-)

Can't imagine what made you think of quoting Billy. Must be the similarity of the eyebrows. He's gonna play me in the movie.

Paul will be played by Alfred Molina,

and of course Romo will be played by Owen Wilson.

Haha -- very cool, Doc...seriously, what brought a smile to my face was seeing you sublimely happy in some of the pics available on the web.

Priceless :-)
