Suggestion Box / Symphonies, concertos?
« on: May 04, 2008, 10:26:53 AM »
How about a Brahms, Mahler or Beethoven symphony?  Or a piano or guitar concerto?  Something extended and dynamic we can really get into for 40 - 50 minutes.  There are so many great analog recordings out there that it should be possible for the Tape Project to find one to work their magic on.  The Oistrakh recording (I've only heard the XRCD - waiting for the TP tape to arrive) is an excellent selection for 2007.  How about at least two big symphonic/concerto selections for 2008.

Suggestion Box / 2008 Titles?
« on: May 02, 2008, 01:01:04 PM »
We are one-third of the way into 2008 but only one-half of the 2007 titles are in distribution so far.  Is it too early to inquire about the 2008 selections?  Not pushing - just curious.

Tape Project Albums - general / How about an introductory offer?
« on: August 13, 2007, 05:53:13 PM »
I've been lurking here for a few months, got my 1500, buying a bunch of tapes on ebay and liking what I hear.  The Tape Project is quite fascinating and I would love to jump aboard.  But....  Isn't there an easier way to find out if my ears, head and system are going to appreciate the music enough to justify the price of admission?   How about if we buy one tape at the full price of $329 but get credit for that amount if we buy a six or ten tape subscription?  Right now, I wouldn't buy the six tapes listed in the catalog for $1200, but, depending on what the next four are, I'm sure I could pick six out of the ten.   But unless I was sure I would really get the full impact of the super tape, I might still be reluctant to commit.

As far as the Plan A or B machine upgrades, I'm sure there will be plenty of feedback from those who get the upgrades to know whether to go down that path.  I'm betting there will be unanimous approval in the hardware department.  Another thought..  Will there just be Plan and B or can there be an a la carte upgrade?

Just my 2 cents.

Reel to Reel Tape Machines / Preamp needed for Technics RS 1500?
« on: April 30, 2007, 03:10:54 PM »
New guy here, intrigued by the Tape Project.  I presently have a Revox A77, which I output directly to an integrated tube amp.  Does the Technics RS 1500 require a head preamp?  Just trying to put all the pieces together so I know what I might be getting into.

Thanks.
