Title: Otari MX 50 vs MX5050
Post by: twinbugles52 on February 12, 2012, 09:57:58 AM
Greetings all! I am a newbie here with this being my 1st post. I have owned RTR machines since the 70's, but I am now interested in getting the most performance out if RTR taping/listening as I can.
My question is this: I have found an Otari MX 50 for sale locally,1/4" 2t/2ch and it is in excellent condition. I am wondering how it differs from the MX5050BII that I currently own?
Any and all help is much appreciated This forum is a virtual gold mine of information! I am glad to be a member.

here are a few different variations of the MX5050 BII's. I don't have anything on the MX 50
B II - 2 is 2 trk, 2 ch.
B II - 4 is 4 trk 2 ch.
B II - F is full trk Mono
B II - 2E is 2 trk 2 ch with DIN specs.

This is what I found in their manual  OS3 - 038
I hope this helps.

Recognize that the BII-2 has a 1/4 track play head and the BII-4 has a 1/2 track play head. Making them 4 haead machines.

Hi, Neal:
Thanks for the additional info. A nice addition on the MX 5050, being able to switch from 2t playback to 4t playback!

Bill
