Truly luscious voice.

Not the best quality upload, but contains a song I adore, still one can glimpse the quality of her voice.   There are better uploads in youtube.

Has anyone of you used this?    Is this a real deal or just a 'snake oil'?

General Discussion / Proco cables from USRECORDING............
« on: December 08, 2011, 08:44:49 AM »
Are they any 'good'?   For example, compared to monsters, bettercables, and nordost?

So far my experience as far as interconnects are concerned, monsters SUCK, bettercables are way
better than Monsters for just a 'little extra' money, nordost is appreciably better than bettercables, but, bang for the buck factor is not there.

General Discussion / TME Plain White PH Neutral Reel Boxes..........
« on: November 22, 2011, 08:24:23 AM »
Are these really necessary?   So far I've acquired about 100 pre-recorded open reels, most of them in their original boxes.    Should I 'upgrade' to TME boxes, or original boxes are good enough?

General Discussion / DAT Tape sound quality.............
« on: November 18, 2011, 12:50:09 AM »
How is it?  Does it sound 'analog' 'enough'?

Does it approach 7 1/2 ips, at least 4 track?

7
Being a 'cheapo', I've been using isopropyl alchohl for the heads, and just hot water for the roller.

Do these products really make 'enough' difference for those who have used them compared to alchohol and hot water?

I remember getting the same tape for about $35 about a year ago.

Tape Project Machines / On sonic improvement of 'wider' tapes .............
« on: September 18, 2011, 08:59:37 AM »
Again, I didn't want to hijack a thread so I started a new one in proper forum.

To address your second question, yes, a 1/2" copy should sound a little better than 1/4" regardless of the width of the original master. The issue is of generational loss, and with all else equal the wider the format you dupe to the higher the fidelity to the original source. That's why we use 1" running masters - more iron particles are imprinted with signal on the wider tracks and S/N ratio is better. In theory a 1" subscription will be even better in terms of retaining the info from the original master than 1/2". If anyone has the budget, the machine and the inclination we could do a subscription in 1".

Question 1;

Other than improved treble, would using 'wider' tapes also have better 'wow and flutter'? since given everything else equal 'wider' tape would have more 'stable' tape movement since 'wider' tape has more 'traction'.

Kinda like skinny tires vs. fat tires.

Question 2;

Would roller bearing guide have more impact (both sonic wise, and the stress on the motors) on wider tapes since fixed guide would create more friction or 'scrapping' on wider tapes?

I didn't want to hijack the thread, so I'm starting a new one.

If you're collecting the 2 track versions of these releases, be sure and add plenty of leader at the beginning and end of each reel since they are acetate backed and will have become brittle with age.

Would the practice of adding leaders at the beginning and the end of non-acetate backed pre-recorded (or for that matter blank) would hurt, help, or  not matter?

11
I understand how it could improve the sonics.    Since there would be less 'scraping', would this imply that the durability of the sonic signature of the tape be 'significantly' improved  compared to fixed guides?

I have heard that it is the biggest issue with 20a se that the logic circuit for some reason has a tendency to get shorts.

Is this due to 'dirty' electricity?   Would getting a high quality power conditioner or regenerator make a positive difference?

....and would it be possible to make replacement logic circuit through reverse engineering?

General Discussion / Which shipping service is the most 'reliable'?
« on: July 05, 2011, 03:58:24 PM »
I have had stuff 'lost' 3 times in the last 4 years, all involving USPS.

...and I mean 'lost' permanently.    Several months ago, 2 USPS employees have been caught stealing the packages in the city I live at.

No wonder they're losing customers.

Tape Tech / Tape width vs. Tape speed...........
« on: July 01, 2011, 06:41:34 PM »
Which one is more important for sound quality?

...and how much 'better' 1/2" or 1" or 2" tapes are compared to 1/4"?

Assuming the same speed, either 7 1/2ips or 15ips and  2 track?

Has anyone had experience with this group?

Now, I don't know if a grand is going to do just one song, or enough songs for a small album, I've sent an email.
