Hello all, just got in my R2R collection a nice 1/4" Studer A807 0.75 VU with firmware version 3088. I'm in full process of recaping before a proper allignment. Does it make any sense to update the firmware to a newer version? Please advice - thanks for any help!

it's an old question... and sorry no one had responded to you yet.
If you don't have any transport issue with your 30/88 firmware, I wouldn't bother updating it.
There are newer versions for Mk I and Mk II:
1.727.351.25 IC14 10/89 27128 8C45 MKI 1.727.350.25
1.727.351.25 IC15 10/89 27128 824B MKI 1.727.350.25
1.727.651.26 IC14 20/92 27256 E79A MKII 1.727.650.26
However, considering the Studer firmware developers did their last significant work in 1988, I would guess the 89 version would include only trivial changes. Even for Studer A810, most experts consider 01/88 version to be more stable than the later 25/91.

Hi
I have 2 A807 MkI's and have just acquired a MKII, The software version is 15/90, the machine has developed a fault on start up where the display shows 15/90, stops at that, and both vu meters go hard over and the 3 over Db leds light up on both channels.
That is as far as it gets, i removed the eprom and tested in my eprom programmer & it reads back with error. I have new eprom chips but unfortunately no .bin file to flash with, can anyone help me? I would love to get this recorder going again.

You need the 1.717.651.26 chip. It is IC14.
Send me an email if you can't locate the BIN file.

Hello Ki, thanks for answer!
Well, since my initial post, I've put on hold the firmare issue.
However, I have a newer version of the A807's transport board, sn 1.727.340.24-V. Is that a plug & play board for my MkI 3088 version machine? Not sure I want to risk to test it and see new issues ...
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi Ki,
I am in the hunt for the BIN files for the a807 MK1 (30.88 and 40.87), do you have them?
