Studer A800: Synching an MKI and MKIII?
« on: September 25, 2010, 10:13:47 AM »
Hello all,

I'm the proud owner of a 24track A800 MKIII and am considering partnering it up with an MKI that is available fairly cheap. However - anyone able to give me a run-down of the relative advantages/disadvantages of the MK I vs. the MKIII (was there an MKII BTW?) and whether it is possible (or even a good idea) to synch an MKI and an MKIII?

ANy thoughts gratefully received - and glad to see this forum is growing fast. I new I wasn't the only person out there who thought buying antiquated old tape machines that weigh a ton is a good idea. ;-)

As per forum rules - the real name:

Tim Osbaldeston, UK and Sweden.

the manuals for all the studers is available for from studer at their ftp site. Most of the differences between MkI and III are in the audio. transformer vs transformerless, etc....

all the 800s sync up well, see the manual.
