Title: JAI Magnetics?
Post by: ironbut on August 16, 2009, 08:16:33 PM
I don't know if any of you guys saw the posting on the Ampex list from Scott Dorsey;

"- ATR Magnetics is shipping tape.  It's good stuff, but very high
  coercivity and not of much use on a 350.

- RMGI is shipping tape.  It includes 911, 900, and 468.  The 468 tape
  is higher bias than a HOLN tape but works nicely on a 350 or 440
  machine.

- Nobody is actually shipping any red oxide tapes or HOLN tapes today.
  JAI Magnetics in India claims to be shipping red oxide tapes still,
  but I have had no luck getting them to ship some to me."

Any of our internationally based member heard of this stuff? This is a first for me (not that I'm hooked on red oxide but you never know till you try.).

Saw the post, but I never thought anyone else in the world was slitting 1/4" tape and putting it on reels. I understood a few lines were still operating making cassette tape stock and shells etc.

I think it's High Output/Low Noise but that's just a guess.

Thanks, Steve. I tried to google HOLN, but nothing that came up made any sense in this context.  Larry
