Hey Rek,
Removing the capstan motor isn't a trivial matter. If you can hear bearing noise coming from it, the bearings may need to be replaced. Quite often, trying to lubricate sealed bearings on a machine that's sat for a while, only loosens hardened bits of dried up oil and then you really will have a noisy bearing (take it from someone who knows!). Some of these machines have a bearing at each ends of the motor but many will have one deep inside so you won't be able to get at it without disassembly.
If you suspect that your capstan has problems, let us know why and maybe it's something completely different.

ok , cool. i might just stay away from it for now until i think it's necesary.
i'm doing some over all cleaning, lubing, and lubricating and i thought while
i'm at it i should check the capstan motor.....

Its sealed for good. Do not try to open it!! Just follow the instructions and oil the capstan itself every year or so---as per the Otari manual!
