Title: Prerecorded tape EQ
Post by: johnsonad on June 13, 2010, 11:23:15 AM
New to this still and a little confused.  Did all prerecorded 71/2 4 track tape use NAB EQ?  The boxes don't let you know and you have the London's with FFRR or FFST among others.  If they didn't all use NAB, what did they use and how do you identify this?  Did certain brands all use one EQ vs. another?

Thanks in advance :)

I have quite a few tapes and I've yet to find one that was recorded in something other than NAB.
Almost all of them were duplicated here in the US. For example, the Ampex facility made the London tapes.

I think in 7-1/2 ips you can have only NAB equalization! I could be wrong.

I've owned some Columbia/EMI tapes that were CCIR eq. at 7 1/2 ips.
