Title: eBay Safety Masters?
Post by: ironbut on October 09, 2011, 01:34:13 PM
I noticed some safety masters that were recently sold on eBay. They were all classical music and the most that a single 10.5" reel went for was $755 for Stravinsky's "Rite,.." (the Montreux Paris Conservatory recording). At 15 ips on 3M 131 1.5mil acetate, it should just barely fit on a single reel.
I have mixed feelings regarding the sale of these safety masters but that's another story.

I have little doubt that some of our members here made bids on the 16 auctions that just ended and I'm wondering if any of you guys won any and what they sound like.
Just curious since I don't really have the finances to bid this kind of money on tapes whose condition is totally unknown.
Please note that I certainly don't hold it against anyone who does and given the right recording, I might well have thrown caution to the wind (actually, I did bid on the "Rite,.." but only around $100. I already have a lacquer that was cut directly from an original mono pressing).

So, if any of you guys wish to share your experiences with these tapes, post away (or if you'd rather not make it public, please PM me).

Hi Steve,
I see these, watch them, then delete them when they go beyond my threshold. Make Tp tapes a bargain at subscription prices.
