Title: early portable tape machines

Well, I know it's not HiFi, but I just broke down and bought one of the early portable machines that use a spring wound motor and a battery tube amp. I have wanted one of those for quite a while !

I certainly remember those - but not the manufacturer - didn't they make one available for two track?

The one I am getting is a Magnemite by the Amplifier Corporation of America. I will see what I have once I get it. There may have been other people making similar units. These were available in various configurations from sometime in the early 50s through the early 60s. the last ones being solid state. I can't find all the info I had found on line before, but I recall seeing a listing somewhere that they were available in a 15 ips. version and in fact they did do a 2 channel stereo field machine. Now THAT would be the "find"!
